Redknapp must go

What's going on. No summer discontent other than a few daggers being thrown at Keane for not tackling enough. Tut Tut.

How long will it be before we have a run of poor results or perhaps lose the run of ourselves and start complaining that we haven't secured a top four slot and Redknapp must go?

We had the knives out for Jol because he wouldn't commit to securing the top four slot.

The knives out for Ramos because he let Berbatov and Keane go and failed to build on the success of the League Cup.

This has however been a very poor silly season.

Could it be that the dust has finally settled. That Spurs have a relatively settled side ready to kick start the season well for once.

Or will it be a repeat of the past where things don't go to plan and the knives are out again calling for Harry's head.

Come to think of it what has Harry ever done for us?

Because I'm an insane football supporter I'd like us to sign lots of £30 million names in the world of fotball.
Truth is we don't really need to do anymore business, I can't remember a transfer window like that, in the past we've been going right down to the wire.

I'm pleased with the enhancements we've made to the squad. We have good depth with quality players and cover in pretty much every position. A fairly smooth pre-season on the back of a strong end to the previous season.

Something's got to go wrong hasn't it.

hahahaha i saw the title and i was gonna come in here and go mental, thank God I read it.

Its going to be really interesting. I think the 3 teams with a tough start are us, Arsenal and Liverpool. Its the first time in forever we havn't changed the squad too much and had a normal pre-season....no beating everyone and blowing them away, lost 2 won a few and draw against a barca youth team. Im quite optomistic as its what we've been crying out for, a settled summer.

Harry bought well in Wilson, Crouch gives us something different up front, Bassong has got great potential. Darren Bent has been out of his and everyones misery, Zokora has gone as he was made redundant by Palacios' arrival.

I think we need to be calm and patient, unless we do worse than 2pts from 8 games because Harry can get us out of that! We have tough games, but JJ and co were saying Harry has drummed in how important a good start is because we never get one. Im sure the target is draw v lpool, win the next 3 v wham, hull and birmingham.

Liverpool will be beatable on day 1, they usually get a great start but losing Alonso and a few defensive injuries means we have a shot. Even if we lose we have 3 winnable games.

Harry has used the "keep it simple, stupid!" approach and its worked wonders, anything is possible this season

You haven't been reading gibbs' posts I see.

Fortunately we've actually done what we hoped this season. We've kept all of our best/starting players and added quality to the squad. The main thing that was missing at the back end of last year was the ability to be more creative up top and score more, hopefully Crouch can give us that.

We have ample centre back cover now and IF Corluka must go into the centre, we have sufficient right back cover. The left side looks solid enough, to be honest, given our form at the end of last season, we have very little to moan about.

I think that's half of the answer to your question, the other half being that Spurs fans now have more realistic expectations. We're not in Europe and don't expect to qualify for CL this season.

Harry's 1.63 points per game even beats Jol's upto end of 2007 season 1.58 making him the best since Sir Bill.

Surely that can't last. Can it?

Gomes settled and confident in goals.
Palacious commanding in midfield.
Modric settled and ready to show every one that he is a top player.
Keane and Defoe blowing hot and cold but somehow piling up the goals between them like the good old days.
Pav and Crouch...surely one of them will be on form.

Could our weakness be defense with King and Woody struggling for fitness. Are we still the soft side that doesn't compete away from home despite the excellent away support. Or has Harry got all that sorted.

With no European distractions I'm almost afraid to think that this could actually be a very good season. But then the Harry haters could be right and the bubble could burst.

I honestly don't know what to expect this season - I'm not sure anyone does.

And you know what - I bloody love it. I'm sure the usual idiotic fans of other clubs will give us stick for saying we'll finish in the top 4 even though very few of us have been stupid enough to say that this season, but there isn't the pressure on us from the media to pose the biggest threat to the top 4 like their usually is. Thats all on Man City's shoulders this time around. Throw in the fact that people are expecting the usual nearly-big things from Everton under Moyes and Villa weren't too far off last season and suddenly it looks like we might be able to ignore all the early hype and just get on with it for once, without people telling us we should be achieving this or that. That can only be a good thing right?

And even if you think it isn't, we all know 'Arry wouldn't want it any other way, and he's earned a bit of faith in him from us so what's good enough for 'Arry is good enough for me.

finally the media have dropped the whole spurs - top 4 thing and hopefully that will lift the weight of expectation that has hampered us

always knew harry would make us a bit tougher having seen pompey away from home. Liked seeing us beat villa in their back garden. Hope to see more of the same.

But....I cant help but imagine what we would have been like had arshavin signed. Would we have started the season so badly? Would he have been as good for us? Modric and arshavin in the same team! Fkin hell! Never would have got keane then because too similar to arsh. Also we would prob not signed palacios which im delighted has happened. guy is a ledgend in every way. O well. Nice to hear a manager talking in proper english!

Not just the media. At the end of the Jol era the fans and the club seemed to think that 'the next step' - into the CL was almost an inevitable progression. I agree that more realistic expectations will be a boon. fifth or sixth, a couple of good cup runs and some good football would do me nicely!

I think that is largely thanks to Man Citeh. Usually it was us outside the top 4 spending a sizeable amount of cash on players as well as Ramos 'taking us to the next level'. Now Citeh are almost expected to finish in the top 4. I think with the lack of media interest in our potential to do well this season, along with a settled squad, it can only be a positive for us.

Funny but Paul Hart and some of the media believe its Harry's fault for spending too much and offering big wages at pompey hence their troubles! ah I guess its only natural to blame someone when things go bad.

Watch this space!

Apart from increased stability, and our best balanced squad for a long time, no Europe will really suit us (and City) in comparison to Everton and Villa. Playing on Thursdays is really disruptive, never mind tiring. You could argue we went steadily backwards once we got into Europe.

Some good posts and I think Harry has helped that we know he is a decent manager and spurs as they are at present are probably the best squad and well resourced club he has ever had as a manager.
Will he take us to the top of footballs pinnacle i doubt it but he should ensure we get the ball rolling again. Hopefully making us more attractive to top class players and coaching staff again. We can have all the money in the world but if we have a bad or a poor rep.

Like others say lets settle in the league try and get a good start make sure we keep it tight at the back try not to concede which maybe hard with our injuries at first. I would settle for a bore draw as a opening game or of course even better a win.

This season I could handle us being tough to beat, make White hart lane or the Spurs team as your visitors a game that the other team dread and dont look forward to.
To often its been the other way round and lets face it when harry was in charge at Portsmouth as he developed the side they came a team that many Spurs fans didn't fancy our chances against. He spent a lot their but of course to get players to go to Portsmouth must be even harder than getting them to Spurs unless bunging them huge wages..

Except for that nice shiny pot in the trophy cabinet
I see your point though although i would argue it was once we sold young Mr Carrick that things started going wrong which was at least a month before we played our first game in Europe

Onwards and upwards though! I am actually really enjoying the distinct lack of hype.
Can you imagine if we actually won our first game of the season? I cant remember the last time we managed it so for me it would be a bit special
