i think relegation is a possibility if we do not start to get a few results together.

is the current info that if we took away the incredibly lucky west ham and villa wins we would be 19th in the league.

for me that says it all.

i am not a fan of poch then again im not a fan of sacking so lets just hope we start to win a few games. :)

Yes we're going to be in a relegation battle along with Man U, Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal.

I wonder if you'll still be saying after we've played Chelsea—or even after we've played Hull. Do you really think we're going to beat Everton on current form?

Why not? We beat Southampton and they're in far better form than Everton.

I'll take each game as it comes. There is no reason why we can't start picking up form.

This thread's a piss-take, right?
You can see in the future can you. Look, based on current and worsening form we are in a bad patch. Fixtures coming up could really expose us. You can't even say we have the talent to get out of a bad situation, especially as most of them lack any bottle.
I don't expect us to go down but we could get sucked in to the bottom 8 and stay there.

Yes. Other than QPR, that was our only decent performance of the season, unless you count parking the bus against Arsenal, and even so we were pretty fortunate to get all three points. They created more chances than we did. We've also lost at home to the Barcodes, the Baggies and Stoke, not to mention Liverpool, but do feel free to ignore this awkward fact.

I really wish I could share your optimism, but I can think of several reasons why we can't start picking up form.

Mate, we are not going to be in a relegation battle. Things are shitty at the club, but we're on what, 14 points with 27 games to play. With 40 being the points total to make us safe, it's a fucking ridiculous idea that we'd be anywhere near the bottom of the league.

Go check with the bookies. Throw a tenner on us finishing bottom 4 and you'll probably be able to buy a new car, if it comes up. That should give you some idea about how unlikely it is.

This whole thread is doomsday nonsense. And I imagine in your heart of hearts, you know it.

If you don't have hope as a football fan, what is the point?

The odd on us winning the league and getting relegated are practically the same 400/1...

... so, guys, you know... go ahead, make your fortunes.

Jesus.

*to clarify my position, this thread is as riduclous as a "Can we win the league?" thread. And the bookies would agree.

Now imagine if we're on 20-23 after 20, with 18 to play. Not so clever, is it?

And really, the fact that you're talking about it being easy for us to achieve 40 points is indicative of how bad things are. What happened to 70 points and a chance of top four? No, I don't think we'll be relegated, but the way things are going at the moment we might not be too far above the battle. What appals me is the downgrading of expectations since the start of the season—that it will somehow be acceptable if we finish in the bottom half.

I'm trying to imagine what this place would have been like last season if results had been this bad under Sherwood.

No, those scenarios aren't too great. But, you're talking in absurd hypotheticals. Anyone can do that and any team's fans can decide that they're presently in crisis if they base their argument on the hypothetical notion that they're going to receive the grand total of 6 points from the next 9 games.

A win in our next game and we're looking not so shabby again.

Relax mate. It's bad and it's disappointing but it's not critical. It's talk like this which makes our fans show up at White Hart Lane to watch the games like a crowd of depressed goats.

Am I? Looking at our next nine fixtures, a point a game doesn't look too unlikely at all given the way we're playing. I think that barring some kind of miracle we can write off both games against Chelsea, and the way Swansea are going it's going to be very difficult to get anything there. We should be looking forward to 12 nailed-on points from Palace, Burnley, Hull and Leicester, and draws against Everton and United would be very acceptable. At the start of the season I'd have believed we could get 18 points from those six games, and three against Swansea as well. I'm wondering if we'll get half that.

Correct. But do you see that happening? We've scraped our last few wins against them, they're only a couple of points behind us and they'll be up for this—especially our three ex-players. Of course, they could have a bloke or two sent off. It worked for us against Villa.

Obviously I'd be gutted if we ever get relegated (chances are in our lifetime we will), but it would bring a few positives which I'd really enjoy:

1. New grounds
2. Cheaper ticket prices
3. Saturday 3pm kick offs
4. Better atmosphere IMO - the day trippers would be gone, the ground may not be full, but those who are there would be there to support the shirt. 1882 would also be able to get a permanent block you'd think, and that would bring so much enjoyment back to league games.

No think we will go on a massive winning run in league and cups, think the players need a sit down clear the air talk with each other, don't have to like each other just have to learn to play together (football ya dirty bastards)

and wow talking about winning leagues/top 4 to relegation in 10 or so matches lol

Like Newcastle? It's a bugger that we can't play ourselves to start a run.
