I don't mind being the voice in the wilderness, I still remain to be convinced, my doubts pre-date any mistakes made in a Spurs shirt.
It is interesting that people who argued that he was good / excellant now say that Tony Parks has made a real improvement which does rather confirm that he needed to improve doesn't it.

I have seen nothing over the last month that makes me think he's as good as people are saying (cech?), I grant you his blunder count has dropped and that is great however I still question his judgement, he still punches when he should catch which puts unnecessary pressure on our defence.

Contrary to some people's assumptions I have always supported him sung his name and cheered him as I do all our players but my doubts remain and will do until I feel comfortable when high balls come into our box, I'll grant you my panic level has reduced but not gone altogether.

I wonder if his position is as safe as some people assume on only the 5th day of the transfer window:whistle:

You are simply wrong. Punching does not put pressure on the defence, a keeper who does not come for any crosses does. Most top European keepers are coached to punch the ball if they have any doubt as to whether they can catch it cleanly. If you can show any examples when we have conceeded a goal after a clean Gomes punch I will be very surprised.

Best keeper I've ever seen in a Spurs shirt (I'm relatively young), and one of the best keepers in Europe. I cannot put across in words just how highly I rate him.

Heurelho FTW

Not many players have shown such character after beeing ridiculed by the media for a long time. Some keepers never come back after beeing in a situation like that.

That's fucking impressive!

Love the guy!

It does when the right option is to catch it, how many times has a keeper collected a ball safely in his arms and the crowd has instantly relaxed and the defending team calmed down immediately? I have seen it and you have seen it but does punching out have the same affect? No it doesn't.
I have no problem with punching my problem is with punching balls that should be caught cleanly perhaps because the keeper can’t judge it correctly.
Of course keepers not coming for a ball when they ought puts pressure on their defense but that doesn’t mean that any other action doesn’t.
I suspect that we will have to agree to differ on this.

I know what your saying saucy, completely and utterly, but I think his choice of punch is generally the right one.
Against Wigan, several corners were whipped in at pace, he punched a few passed the 18 yard box, but our midfielders were defending so ball was coming back at us.

I get that, but there are problems that come into play. Confidence that your defense can clear. A punch is no different to a header away.
Try to catch through players is always difficult, even Cech buggered this up which resulted in his country getting knocked out of the euro's. But I'm more than happy for our keeper to punch if he feels its the safer option.

I can safely say that our defenders would be happy for him to punch too.

I have given him much praise. However I still feel my initial concerns were justified by a collection of consistently woeful clown-like performances.

I'm happy he appears to have turned it around. The same can be said for Dawson too.

Thing is though Kendall, it's important to know the difference between form and class...it was obvious that Gomes was going through a horrible patch of form which was amplified by all the bullshit going on around him and having a goalkeeping coach not suited to the Prem/British game...the man has ALWAYS had class.

I'm delighted for him, like yourself, but in future hope that people will be a little more discerning in their criticisms (not aimed necessarily at you mate, just generally)...

I backed the guy right from the start. Even when he was making mistakes I was one of the few Spurs supporters, go back and check my old posts for verification, who NEVER wavered in my support for him. It was obvious from the start that he was a class gk. Yes he made a few mistakes, and will carry on to do so, but the simple facts are he will earn us a extra 6-9 points a season himself. Ask any Dutch fans and they will tell you it was because of Gomes that PSV won the title 3 times or so.

Why he was getting so much stick is beyond me considering Bentley has done sweet FA this season apart from THAT goal and still the media say nothing....

Not really, because he was similar at PSV. I felt at PSV some attributes to make him a good keeper, but I also felt that he had a crazy streak in him that could be punished in the league. For the first 2-3 months I was proven right, he consistently fumbled crosses, fouled players and bundled the ball into his own net.

All of a sudden Parks has come in and has streamlined him and he seems calmer and more trusting between the sticks. A case of our experienced headed coach sorting his good attributes and taming his weaker side? perhaps.

Was unsure when we got him. I didn't think he was an improvment on what we had at the time (if we got Robbo back up on his feet) but he has shown why so many wanted him, and why he had a good reputation in Holland

So how many PSV games did you watch last season, as a matter of interest?

Hilarious backtracking. He had a dodgy patch that coincided, ironically, with Redknapp's arrival. Parks has obviously helped, but so has more consistency in our defence as a whole.
