Could Richard Dunne be joining the Ramos revolution over the summer months?

The season has been over for barely 24 hours, but the media continue to link players with Spurs.

The favourite one for the press is of course our supposed chase to sign Samuel Eto'o. But with Inter Milan now showing an interest, I'm sure that story will die off soon enough.

The more interesting story to emerge over the last 24 hours is the Premier League scramble to sign Richard Dunne.

The defender is out of contract at Manchester City and with the turmoil at City, he looks set to leave with Tottenham, Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle all linked with snapping him up on a free according to the Guardian.

on a free...i'd say good shout

Is he out of contract?

Him on a free as third choice with King and Woody in front of him (meaning he's guaranteed to play most of the season anyway) would be superb business.

Yea as a free he would be perfect imo. No need to settle down as he knows the league, an experienced head and a leader.

Not sure he'd fancy his chances of breaking into the ManUre or Chelsea back four so us or Arse would look better for him.

Chelsea may just offer him mega-bucks to stop anybody else signing him of course

Dunne is exactly the sort of defender we should go for. He has a surprising turn of pace, experience and wouldn't need long to adapt... but with the Irish connection going on at Sunderland, I reckon he'll end up there. If so it would be a shame coz i reckon he can comfortably ply himself on a European stage...even champions league level.

I was just about to post this.

We missed out on Distin when he went on a free the other season. I feel Dunne would be perfect for us for next season. Him and woodgate would be formidible. He's at a good age, has great leadership qualities and knows the premiership inside out.

Would bloody love 'Old blue eyes'!

as nedley said, thought it was a mistake missing out on Distin a while back, hope we don't miss this freebie oppotunity with Dunne or could be regretting it again

On a free transfer, yes would be a great bit of business, we could go for Jaaskelainen on a free aswell.

hopefully the board have learnt their lesson since their policy of only buying youth backfired (short term anyway)...experience is essential to help youth develop...it showed with naybet and davids

I think he has one year left on his contract, so wouldn't be free but would be pretty cheap. I think he's been player of the year for the last 3 seasons for them, would be an excellent signing, particularly as the barcodes want him, and stealing their signings gives me a lot of joy

Hell yes. Great solid defender. Exactly what we need. I think he has a little longer left on his contract though.

This year? He's been their best defender since Keegan stopped him turning up to training half-cut and got him off the pies. One of the most underrated CBs in the EPL, City fans' PoS for the last three-four seasons.

Remember Gardner jumping out of the way of Nani's shot at OT? You would not see Dunne doing that.

There might be better CBs in Spain or Germany or Italy, but if you want an EPL-proved one who'll run over broken glass for the team, for not much dosh, look no further.

Looking at all the fancy names and stars that crop up on here from time to time and the wide span of opinions on them it says a lot for Richard Dunne that every poster so far has been positive.
Just shows how much we still respect a good steady solid player that never lets you down.

Would be a fantastic signing as long as he knew that if King stayed fit he'd not get played. However A combination of King and Woody aswell as all the cup games we will play he would be likely to get a good 20-25 games and playing for a club in europe with probably higher wages he may well take that.

He is experienced and has been a solid defender in the division for a while now. IMO just what we need. Don't wan't to sign some foreign nobody who'd need to adapt to the league. Get in Dunne and a decent goalie, keep Berba and buy a winger either Left or right prefereably Bentley or Capel and my god we'd have some fucking squad!
