RIP Jimmy Hill

Alzheimer's victim, he has died aged 87. Innovative man who changed football earnings - player, manager, TV pundit, etc.etc. One of football's "big" characters.

I worked on the weekly magazine Jimmy Hill's Football Weekly many moons ago but never met the man - it was just one of his many business interests and he sold the magazine which was then shelved.

I can't remember whether he played a part in the introduction of penalty shoot-outs, or whether he had a really good alternative (think it was to decide the winner on number of shots/corners to encourage attacking play).

I'd actually say that Jimmy Hill is more deserving than anyone of the minute's applause.

In truth the personality we all loved was taken from us a few years ago when Alzheimers set in, but still a very sad day. The man literally did everything in football and I can't imagine there's ever been anyone who loved the game more than Jimmy. Among the game's most colourful and visionary characters. What a man.
