I don't think Defoe has ever hidden the fact that Ian Wright was his childhood hero, vis-a-vis Arsenal were his club.

Doesn't matter a jot to me, he has a real connection with the fans here, and obviously loves playing for the club, and more importantly; he keeps scoring goals.

However if Wenger was was to tap him up and say "I want you to be the main man in my side, agitate, force a move, and I will break the bank for you", of course Defoe would do it, not because he supports them, but they are simply a bigger club than us at the present time, Champions League and £100k+ a week are all the modern footballer really care about these days, not childhood allegiances.

+1 Well said to all of this.

So long as he's scoring goals who cares but don't kid yourself into thinking he wouldn't leave if the opportunity to progress his career arose.

Keane would've scored 6 last night. Call him back

Question is, when will Defoe crack the 100 goals for Spurs barrier?
the word "legend" is used too easily.

In my opinion it applies to Hoddle,Blanchflower.Greaves,Jennings, mackay and not many more
And Will Smith

After what Sol done I would never say never that a player of ours does it again....
I'm not sure we would make the same mistake again tbh. We should never have let him run his contract down in the first place. I don't think Daniel Levy would ever make that mistake. I'm sure he'd rather just cash in before the final year of a players contract.

Apparently he did—as did (and possibly does) Bent, and Harry.

Why can't people get their heads round the fact that players are (as you say) professionals?

OMFG...you mean dey is gettin' paid for dat sheeite:eek:mg::eek:mg::eek:mg:

Two were mis-hits? The first certainly was, but I assume you're referring to his second as a mis-hit as well and I couldn't disagree more. Defoe's excellent at putting away those kind of chances and I think he did brilliantly again tonight to put that one away. They're very difficult to convert but he often puts them away so I think he deserves credit for that.

If the ball comes off your shin then its definitely a mishit.

i know it was a joke but i just want to say that robbie keane is a legend for me.

im too young to have seen dave mackay, danny blanchflower, ossie ardiles etc play but I have seen videos of the old games and apprciate them

Im sure for me and people that are born post-1985, someone like Robbie Keane is a legend alongside Sheringham, Mabbutt, Klinsmann, and Ginola.

Robbie has made some mistakes and is not the player he was, but I won't deny that in the dark dark days of that ageing Glenn Hoddle side and us languishing around 8th-10th, Robbie Keane was a shining light.

The hat-trick v everton
The cheeky goal v Bham(maybe pompey) the GK put it down to kick it and he ran from the behind the goal
THAT ludicrous goal against Blackburn at the lane
The late leveller against Chelsea in the 4-4
The "play on" goal v the scum at the Library
The last min pen to draw 2-2 v the scum at the lane after being 2-0 down (thats how you handle the pressure JD)
The 4th goal that really killed off the scum in the Carling Cup semi
The sublime partnership with Berbatov
ANd of course the madcap celebrations when we won the Carling Cup

For me...for a player to do that many things for so many years, he's a legend. And I still think we may see him back at WHL.

JD is well on his way aswell, but you never know when another Sol Campbell is around the corner.

Robbie Keane IS a Spurs legend and he should be shown more respect.

Or am I wrong that he in fact didn't score over 100 goals for us...

*Waits for the "yeah but he jumped ship to Liverpool replies".

Sheringham jumped ship to Man U, he's still considered a legend for Spurs though yet didn't win anything with us or finish as high in the league as the teams Keane has been in though - just an example.

Why does celebrating Defoe scoring a hat-trick and playing well for us always have to morph into a way to bash Keane, it's kinda disrespectful to Defoe in a way too.

Because DJS, like I said earlier, perhaps in this thread, perhaps in another one, our fans are idiots.

Yes, Keano is a Spurs legend. Anyone who says otherwise should not be

1 on this site

2 calling themselves a real Spurs supporter.

His form may have gone downhill lately, but his performances over a number of years fully deserve legend status. Mark my words, a couple of decades down the line, he'll be inducted into the Tottenham hall of fame.

Didn't they let Freund into that?

Because people have a different view on what a Legend is, to me we don't currently have anybody deserving of the Legend status. It's a status far too easily adorned on people and there should be very few Tottenham legends or it simply undervalues the enormous achievements and contributions of the few who probably genuinely deserve the status. Plus the hall of fame induction isn't an indication of Legend status, the inclusion of Freund proves that.

Real Tottenham legends are people like Nicholson, Blanchflower, Greaves, Smith, Jones, Hoddle, Perryman, Jennings, Mackay, Ditchburn and Knowles.

If everybody is a legend it belittles the achievements of people like the above.
