Ys but is that the way Ramos and Co see it.
Just for the info, i see as you do too!

Not that I don't think Keane is a smashing player, but Villa has that crucial yard of pace that he lacks that would make him top top class.

If Rafa has been watching his homeland romp to the Euro 2008 chamionship this summer (which i suspect is highly probable), then I would have thought his first choice to partner Torres would be Villa. In the likely event that Villa wants to go elsewhere then next on my list would be Robbie Keane as he's proven to get Premiership goals.

Even if it's only pure speculation it may be speculation that gets Rafa thinking.

I want some of whatever Rafa Benitez is smoking or drinking. How is Crouch worth £15m? If Levy accepts £5m and Crouch then someone should write 'mug' on his forehead. If Crouch's valuation is £15m then we should be asking for more than £20m for Keane as he is a proven striker at Premier League and international level.

Levy a mug??? This is the man who got Middlesbrough to pay £6m for a 20 stone Mido!!

As much as I love Keane, the thought of Villa-Berbatov up front makes my mouth water. We do need Keane to get 20 league goals next season to have a chance of breaking in the top 4 (yes I know Man Utd did it without a 20+ striker but they had a Pork and Cheeser to make it up).

Villa wouldn't come to Spurs anyway. He's not like Modric or Dos Santos. He'd have a number of offers from big CL clubs who can offer him 1st team football. We wouldn't be battling it out with Newcastle (as with Modric) and Man City (as with Gio) for Villa. Gio may well have turned Chelsea and Utd down in favour of us, but that was becasue it was the right decision for his development. He needs the opportunity to play more 1st team football. Villa will be 1st choice for whoever signs him.

Petyr - in all the reports I've seen of that interview, it's clear that Gio expects to play a lot of football, but I can't see any direct reference to his having been promised a Number 10 role.

It would be very interesting if true, and would clearly have implications for our formation next season. Any link?

Here is a summary of the original interview for Mundo Deportivo by a pretty reliable [poster on GG who lives in Spain:

Sorry - didnt want to start another pointless 'lets all have a guess at formations fred' - but I couldn't find anywhere to crowbar this one in, so it's ended up with its own shiny new thread...
GDS has given a big interview in Mundo Deportivo today and amongst some of the things that stood out - aside from the fact that we also desperately wanted his brother as well & the fact that Ramos was the key factor in joining us and why he turned down Manyoo and the filthy Russian launderette down the road - was this...
I remember that after he scored his hatrick against Murcia in the last game of the La Liga season, GDS was asked by one of the local hacks why he suddenly looked so much better in that game than he had all season. Aside from the obvious - Murcia were shite - he said that it was the first time all season that he had got to play as a number ten - in the centre - and not out on the wing where he does not like playing and is not comfortable, he likes to be in the centre and just behind a striker. Anyway, in MD today, after being asked what was the problem with him at FCB, he was asked "what can we expect of GDS at Tottingham" - he said "At Spurs I will be playing as a number ten...my preferred position"

Agreed.

I've been saying the same for months - Villa won't be coming to us this summer -

And why would anyone who had a reasonable knowledge of Levy think he would take Crouch and £5m for Keane - I'm afraid anyone who believes that or even seriously entertains the idea really needs to follow our transfer history of recent years more closely

And yes I know about Bent but we didn't swap Berbs or Keane for him did we - paid too much without doubt but it's not the same as shifting Keane out for another player we may not even want and a few million on top

Mods & Petyr - I'll reply to this in the Gio thread here:
