I was listening to Talk Sport this morning (I know I know) and they had an interview with Roberto Martinez the Swansea manager; apparently, and I didn’t know this, he is often on the Sky Spanish football programmes as an “expert”.

I have never heard him or seen him before, obviously I know of his success at Swansea, but that’s all however I have to say that I thought he was smart, knew his stuff and put it over very well, in spite of some of the more lame questions.

He was asked whether Spain should play Fabregas or Xabi and his answer was that he always looks at combinations and thought Senna complimented Fabregas better than he did Xabi which I thought was pretty astute however he did say that Xabi’s experience is more likely what the manager would go for.

Has anyone seen him on Sky? What’s your opinion? I can see him making a name for himself as a successful manager in the future and just wondered if anyone else agreed, or have I got it wrong.

no you've got it very right. eyebrows were raised when swansea appointed him by a few people but he's proved a very astute manager who is very shrewd in the transfer market.

i predict swansea to do very well in the championship next season

He comes across as intelligent when he's done Revista; was a regular before his job at Swansea, has done well since though and nice to see him doing well.

He's on Sky a lot and is a very good pundit. In fact Sky's coverage of Spanish football is in general excellent. Guillam talks a lot of shit, but is a very likeable and watchable guy and has a very good rapor with the main presenter. The pundits, usually Albert Ferrer or Martinez, are all very good, and the commentary of Gerry Armstrong is also good.

I don't remember seeing him too much on Revista apart from saying "GUAAAPPPAAA", but he is quite good as a co-pundit in the studio before and after games. His team gets good reviews from all the pundits for playing very good football in League 1. Will be interested to see how he does in the Championship and I actually think we could do alot worse than to loan him a player or 2.

Doubt Benitez would go to everton - although I would laugh. Think it'll be De Boer

I said when Everton were hiring him they had made a mistake.

Talks very well and has good ideas but didn't improve the results at Wigan. Once the defence started to get worse their results were always going the same way.

Shame as he's a nice, intelligent guy but I feel he is better suited for analysis than management.

I'd also question his recruitment too. Not good enough.

Everton fan at my work thinks he should be their DOF, his signings have been good but can't manage them.

Really? I just don't see that. Lukaku apart, which was a no-brainer, what signings of his really stood out?

Funes mori has done well, you don't get many people coming straight from south America and not looking out of place in the PL very often, just look at paulinho.

Besic looks a good player too and although now ageing, Barry has done well for them, as have McCarthy and delofeu.

Not saying every singing has been great but I think more have than haven't. Even if some don't at the moment, under a better manager I think they will prove their worth.
