Has been a disaster this season - I like his ideas but if you are unable to coach a teams defence then you are stuffed.

I like Martinez... just needs to learn defensively. Then again think he could do with a defensive coach alongside him.

Big decision for the Everton board now. They are sat in no mans land at the moment do get the right guy in (like Spam did with Bilic) then they could find themselves back towards the top end but get the wrong man in (Newcastle with McClaren) and they could find themselves in trouble. I always question a board who sack a manager without a new one lined up.

It reminds me a lot of Villa when they sacked Lambert so it's vital that Everton hold onto Lukaku whereas Villa failed to hold onto Benteke.

Doubt Benitez would go to everton - although I would laugh. Think it'll be De Boer

I think he'll go there if offered. As already posted his family live there already and the rivalry between Liverpool and Everton seems much friendlier than most.

People used to say this about Keegan too. "He just needs a defensive coach"... It doesn't work like that, the whole application of his ideas is flawed, his teams are horribly unbalanced.

Ronald de Boer come out with a statement in Holland, basically saying his brother wants the job. I reckon they will chance their arm and go with him.

Yeah, and he's a free agent now as well. I just have a feeling that Rafa might end up there instead due to his tires to the area and his premier league experience.

I don't think it's flawed but his ideas and application of those ideas definitely needs honing. I like the idea of gung ho football but in reality it doesn't get you anywhere.

He is young enough to learn but only if he isn't stubborn to those ideas.

I think the Everton fans are a bit deluded, they are saying this is their best teams since the 80's but imo whilst martinez hasnt done a great job, the teams doesn't exactly scream they should be in the top 7

They do have Lukaku but the rest really do need to step it up a gear if they are to be worth £40m/50m

I'd say Stones, Barkley and Deulofeu are top tier talents that need better direction than Martinez has been able to provide. Adding Coleman, Baines (pre-injury at least), McCarthy, Barry (now ageing), Mirallas (unfortunately a hot-head) and Lukaku into the mix and they have an XI that I think should be at least as good as WHAM's or Southampton's, and they're 18 and 16 points off those two.

But they certainly need upgrades at GK and CB, and now Barry's getting on CM too.

I thought he'd do well for them. However I think the fact the new owners came in mid season meant the players knew they'd bring in their own man. Which is why they're all over the place at the moment. Signing Aiden McGeady wasn't a good idea. Also after watching the Sunderland game the other night I don't think Robles is going to be the next Tim Howard.

He bought a couple of players he knew from his time at Wigan. Crap players I mean. Kone, Alcaraz and Robles.

If they could convince Hiddink not to retire he would do a good job.. I can see Pelligrini been high up on any list & wouldn't be shocked to see the Neville brothers linked... Besides Hiddink I think they should go all out for Unai Emery or Lucien Favre

What is even more amazing is that Everton play with two holding midfielders and are still poor defensively.

They're set up similarly to us, but just have little discipline and work rate. It's taken us years to get this formation right. Poch has hit the nail on the head.

Nice man, and a dignified character, who always represents his clubs well. But I think this is probably a reasonable sacking. The manner of their defeat at Sunderland the other night spoke of a serious failing somewhere behind the scenes.

I wouldn't have minded taking a shot on Martinez when we appointed AVB - but obviously in hindsight that would've been the wrong decision. He clearly has problems with organisation and defence.

Everton cancelling their awards dinner tonight strikes me as classy. Everyone having a good old piss-up the day the gaffer gets the bullet would have been unseemly. Right decision, and shows the club still has a bit of soul to it. Always had time for them as a club.

Could be sacked just for bringing in Kone

What next for Martinez? Watford seem to be eyeing up some Italian geezer but you never know, they might be an option. Or Aston Villa. Maybe even Newcastle........:woot:

I'm sure we can all think of one or two clubs who'd do well to take note and learn from Everton's decision. I've long had the opinion that they do things the right way at Everton, even if it's only off the field at the moment. (For example, EFC is often considered to be one of the leading clubs, if not the leading club, in terms of its charity/community work.)
