Left footed, front foot defender, but a bit too similar to Romero maybe?
He's right-footed, but I agree that he's likely too aggressive.
Also is quite prone to Sanchez-like derps due to lapses in concentration. If Ange thinks he's good enough then why not, but IMO we could do better.

Roma Director is in England currently. Maybe chatting to us too?

Yeah quite possibly regarding players. The same Pinto we were linked to. He’s obviously not leaving Roma, he’s been a busy boy so far this window.

First and foremost he’s an excellent defender, aggressive and very quick, times tackles well and reads the game well. Was a little bit suspect on the ball and error prone but improved on that this season and if we’re playing an Ange system that kind of weakness won’t be exposed as he’ll have plenty of passing options all the time. I genuinely think he’s the kind of CB that’s made for the PL and the type of quick and physical strikers they have to deal with these days, none of them would enjoy playing against a Romero/Ibanez partnership at all

totally agree. Obviously here's a link to the highlight video for those that want to see his best moments.

I think what stands out to me is how many times he wins the ball in midfield/high areas of the pitch. Yeah maybe we'll get beat from being too aggressive a couple of times but if you're trying to install a press higher up then I think this will help.

Also it was interesting and mentioned elsewhere that Roma is struggling with FFP, I believe? If we hold an interest in Ibanez, it's interesting that we allowed Ndicka (who we had links to) to go to Roma, and if we were to end up with Ibanez - that kind of benefits all parties.

Controversial take - Bit wary of signing players or sporting directors from Roma after Lamela and Baldini. Roma screwed us over the Lamela deal.

If our players had half the fight lamela did and effect he gave to the team, we wouldn't be in this place right now!

Lamela I would seriously take back right now if we could, without his injuries he could have pushed on even more.

When did it become mandatory that only left footers could play as a lcb?

It drives me mad. It's never been a big deal in the past and never really mentioned but now it seems like it is one of those things that if it is repeated enough times everyone will believe. We were spoilt having Jan playing for us on that side so long. But our best centreback partnership before then was probably Ledley and Woodgate and neither of them were left footed. John Terry played left side for Chelsea for a decade or so and wasnt left footed. Vidic and Ferdinand widely held as one of the best of the modern era, neither of them were left footed. Adams/Bould/Keown. None of them either. I suspect throughout history there are a lot less left and right footed partnerships than people could even mention.

Agree it’s odd- although not as odd as when we use right footed left backs (when has there been a left footed right back ever?)
That said, a left footed LCB does give great angles to pass around presses which right footers can’t give. It’s understandable why they are a preference. Players that can use both feet equally well are gold dust

Ashley Young played left back for ages.
