He is quality and would have been amazing beside Toby and Jan, I think all 3 are special players.

Jan was class, Toby never seemed to be out of position or make a mistake.

Romero is def special

Time will tell, but Romero has a lot of ability and room for improvement in certain areas.

His ability on the ball far exceeds that of Verts or Toby, and a s a defender he is improving all the time.

If he stays with us, he will eventually Captain the side and become one of our best ever defenders to wear the Spurs shirt, and will reduce Mabbutt, Jan, Toby and any other center back you wish to mention to the state of mere mortals.

We have a true World class defender on the horizon, we really do.

Far exceeds? Alderweireld had decent long passing range, but Vertonghen was super comfortable in possession, and good enough with the ball to be a top notch LB. Note this doesn’t mean I don’t love Romero, the very fact we are debating his merits vs those two is all you need to know

I rate Romero very highly and would be delighted if he goes on to become our best ever CB. However, if you believe your opening statement then you underappreciated Alderweireld and Vertonghen.

Alderweireld had superior long-range passing to Romero (and 99.9% of defenders in world football).

Vertonghen was better at carrying the ball out from the back and better in the oppositions half. He scored multiple goals from open play (most CBs only offer a goal threat from set pieces). I lost track of how many Maradonna turns he did in a Spurs shirt, but I'm pretty certain he had 100% success rate with them.

In fact, some seasons ago one of our first team players (I don't recall who it was) was interviewed and was asked who was the best player on the ball at the club, the response was Jan. The player said that Jan glided past players gracefully during training, to their envy.

But he’s no Ledley King.

There’ll never be another Ledley King.

Someone clone Ledley King with good knees already.
