Understood, I don't think I can begrudge him playing Dawson last year, but now we have 3 other CBs and he's still captain. I think the captaincy should've gone to Jan or Lloris this year, they are the only 1st picks in the squad.

I think the concern is more that stripping Dawson of the captaincy would be in bad taste considering he's our longest serving player. Ledley was club captain and barely played in some seasons. Being captain doesn't mean automatic starter.

rose could end up being ok but no way should be the starting lb in a team chasing top 4.
As an understudy yes but that's why it's so disappointing we didn't sign a specialist lb in the window.

Benny was a good footballer who was too often an average defender
It's a big big error and I'll be furious if we see AVB crow-barring Verts at LB where he simply does not belong and is totally wasted. We had a whole window to address this and seemed to have focused only on coentrao for some reason. Bad error.

What has Rose done wrong?

You cannot hold him responsible for Daws not holding the line.

Give it a bloody rest.

Nothing. Some people just see 7 fancy foreign players brought in and want an entirely new team of them. Rose is an easy target.

He's the chosen scapegoat, poor lad. Is he perfect? Nope. But he's still young and developing. He is a Spurs player so he deserves a chance and I shall support him. I think it's quite shameful to see people laying into him whilst he's still adjusting to life back in our side and doing his best.

Bloody hell there aren't that many genuinely good left backs better than what we have, those that are better aren't available or won't come to us. I would have liked Coentrao to be part of the Bale deal but if he refuses what can anyone do?

Rose can improve and it's up to the coaches to do this now.

my main issue with Rose is that his shirt seems a bit too small for him...

on a serious note, while he may not be the best, he's the best we have currently and I think given time he'll be alright. He's certainly got the right team of coaches to guide him and help him learn.

If AVB genuinely thought he wasn't good enough or had been 'meh' about his performances on loan last season I really doubt he'd have his chance now.

Just think people should get behind the lad before just branding him not good enough. Its only three games, and by in large he's been fine.

I get the feeling with some people, they can't wait to get on his back.

Sorry mate, but on one too many occasions Danny boy has been in situations where he could have opted to pass instead of keeping the ball, hugging the line and trying to cross which, eventually would end up turning out to be a shit cross in the attacking third. IMO, Benny had a better cross and offered more than Danny boy. Further, for the Arsenal goal I hold Danny boy responsible for allowing Walcott to get behind the line. Admittedly, that was the first quality attack that we faced. Then again, it is one of the NLD for which I felt pretty much "meh", no spirit, nothing like the previous NLDs... Even for the 5-2 losses, there was more spirit than this.

Just my $0.02 and I might be wrong for I am no expert in these matters. I am behind Rose for he dons the Spurs shirt but, would not mind an upgrade any day. Weakest link of the team.

His crossing needs to improve, as does Walkers.

For the Arsenal goal, there were a few involved who could of done better - putting it all down to Rose I certainly don't agree with.

Its three games in. People are entitled to their opinions, but for me he's been fine for the most part. Branding him the weakest link after three games when we've only conceded one goal is very premature IMO.

It just feels like that people want a scape goat and are setting up Rose to be that guy.

Sorry you are wrong - Daws did not hold the line and instead followed Giroud playing him on side. Nothing to do with Danny.

Rose was shafted for the goal by Capoue, who inexplicably didn't close down and trotted back into a central position. After that Rose had little choice but to go towards the man with the ball... If he hadn't and the Arsenal player with ball had come forward a bit more and thumped one in the net or passed directly to Giroud himself (Dawson not holding the line is still the main reason that goal was scored, Rose not going to close down means a direct pass/cross to Giroud behind a broken defensive line could happen). If this had happened people would be moaning for him not closing down... guaranteed

As for Ekotto's ability on the ball. Good technique for sure, but there is a fair amount of revisionism going on here. Benny often gets, or is put, into some really promising positions yet 99.9% of the time failed to capitalise on them. He usually smashed an aimless low cross to no-one. To say Rose is worse after three games is harsh.

I see Rose and Walker as two youngish guys still with a lot to learn who are both at about the same point in their careers and ability.

Ifeel more uncomfortable with Walker, out of the two, as he is still too often prone to "brain farts".

Cheers!

I bet AVB was seething when saw this?

i know i was - cant believe the negativity aimed towards rose - typical fan not even giving the boy a proper chance - he will be playing there for us a lot this season - time to get behind the boy and help him by showing him the support he deserves for putting on a lilly white shirt and fighting for his place.

I thought Benny was lightweight and shit when he first came into the 1st team. I'm delighted I was wrong. I thought Rose wasn't good enough, didn't really see much of him at Thunderland and I was also desperate for us to sign a LB this summer. However, I have to say he hasn't had a bad game yet this season and if AVB can turn Bale from a decent left winger into the world's most expensive player then I reckon he has a chance of turning Rose into an above-average Premiership LB.
