I think it's more complicated than a basic wage though. I know the press talk about simple basic wages (cos it's easy) but with bonuses it's very different. I'm not saying that we're paying £150K all around but I suspect the ability to earn way more for our players is much bigger than most clubs (and probably the trigger points/thresholds feel quite achievable. As a player you'd consider all of that when assessing your package. Fairly sure an ITK said as much this window.
I take your point but we are not the only club that has performance related bonus's on top of the basic wage. I am also not referring to the 150k figure in the press, I dont believe that.

My point is that he has been offered 100k a week where he is, guaranteed money. We need to fit him in somewhere below Eriksen, Ali and even Dembele to ensure we dont upset the apple cart. Not happening IMO.

But you assume his priority is money which, as I have said before doesn't make sense because if it was he would have taken the pay rise Everton offered him.

It's not all about the wages you earn from the club each week though is it? How much is Dele earning through sponsorship now? How much is Barkley earning after all his years at Everton? On top of that RK has been trying to force him out of the club while Poch seems to have a bond with all of his players.

I see the 'This Thread Is Useless Without ITK' thread (aka Daily ITK Discussion thread) has clocked off for the night again.

Could this summer TW be any bleaker/more boring?

Why bleak? I'm more worried about leavers than joiners. We have our best starting XI in years and the squad only needs minor changes (RB and a goal-scoring version of Janssen) to improve it. Frankly I don't see a 'need' for Barkley, especially if his agent is playing the 'Billy Big Bollocks' card. Leave him where he is and go back in January if necessary.

Definitely, the constant reminders of there's x amount of time left don't panic and we're 'interested' in various players but there's nothing remotely close will continue to make us fans fall into a deeper depression. We should have our own window name... instead of the transfer window ours should be named to Spurs PR window lol

Here's the Spurs panel members responsible for deciding our incoming transfers... take an eternity to decide every bloody minor detail = no decent signings or any in time for the new season.

Because as good as our first XI Is, our squad, is as weak as it was last season, and pound for pound, our rivals, have in one way or another, strengthened.

Like it or not, standing still is akin to going backwards in this game.

Can't imagine he'd ask for 100k or more. He's inferior to that lot below who can play where he does and I'm sure most if not all of them are below 100k

Eriksen
Alli
Son
Lamela
Dembele
He was offered 120k to stay at Everton but turned it down so I don't think he will take less to
At the risk of starting a debate about Daniel Levy and Spurs ongoing wage structure...That would be a valid argument if we paid our players the market value. Unfortunately we don't, and we've had ITK to say as much.

It's wishful thinking to expect incoming players to be happy to come to us and earn less if they have the option to go elsewhere and earn more. Some players could be tempted by the lure of Poch, but most will have their agents pushing them towards people with more financial clout than us.

Look at Zaha, apparently he was one of our main targets, but he was happy to sign a new contract at palace because they would pay him more.

Saying that, I think this whole 140k story is just click bait bollocks. I expect us to get Barkley by the end of the window.
I agree with everything you say except we will well get Barclay by the window. Maybe the £140k is exagerated but remember he was offered 120 to stay at Everton so he would want at least 100 k to come to us which is more than our players get and certainly more than Levy will pay. Also he (Levy) wont pay the price Everton want for him even though it's come down to 35mil from the 50 first mentioned. Barclay will probably go to Chelsea possibly even the Arse if Sanchez goes but not us. I would bet a lot of money on it.
I think we will buy a couple of players but again at the eleventh hour and just acouple of 9 or10 mil young guys for the future that wont do us any good this season.

We can't afford to be complacent. Even Poch says we need new blood, and basically the reason we need it is to keep fellas on their toes, as much as anything.

If Arsenal lose Sanchez they haven't strengthened.

Why does everyone believe that Everton offered Barkley £100k or £120k per week? I highly doubt that it's true, and seems like something Everton would be happy to 'leak' to the press to appease their own supporters - 'we did everything we could to keep him'.

I'm not sure whether this will happen, but if it doesn't I suspect that will be because of Everton's asking price or a cash-rich third party, rather than RB's wage demands.

It isn't healthy that our top 12 players basically pick themselves, players get complacent. Where is the challenge to our keeper, defenders, CMs, AMs or Kane ?

This couldn't describe better the heart of the problem currently faced by THFC. Reasonably priced 1st team players are reluctant to come as they seriously want game time and don't want to keep fighting for their place. The more costly one will want wages above the current limits so upsetting the current squad and possibly even set off a scramble for pay increases. Having kept on adding bench players or bringing in potential hoping they will make it, doesn't challenge the dozen who feel their places are in danger which could encourage complacency. Somehow the system we have adopted for wage limits and transfers has inadvertently created this position we find ourselves in.

It seems a risky business to jeopardise the good position we currently enjoy by suddenly really upping our wage ceiling and paying over the odd transfer fees. For the moment it seems we probably should continue to trust in the current policy and hope that the transfers MP hinted at will happen. There is little to be gained by trying to second guess whether our system will push us into 5th or 6th place. After all, if things aren't going well, there is still the winter window to do something about it.

It isn't just on here that people see the possibility of losing are best players if it looks like we are heading for 5th or 6th place. Both MP and DL will be aware of the danger and I feel sure there is a plan B to avoid it happening. We are too far down the road to foolishly throw it all away.

Exactly. It's what I've been saying all summer. Part of Poch's ethos is about competition for places in the team. "You're paid to train, not to play", his own words. We need competition for places. It's paramount.

I spoke to a scout today who works for an agency that has an Everton first teamer and he said Barkley is going to spurs as soon as they can agree terms with everton

I'm sure it's been mentioned before but can't believe the other big boys are not in for him...say Chelsea, with Matic on the way to ManU, they currently have Kante, Fabregas, Bakayoko, Hazard, Willian and Pedro as their senior CM/AM - they can easily get Barkley if they are interested you'd think?
