Blackburn Rovers have announced the departure of their manager, Sam Allardyce, and his assistant, Neil McDonald, "as part of our wider plans and ambitions for the club".

The move came after their 2-1 defeat to one of Allardyce's former clubs, Bolton, yesterday, and with the club 13th in the Premier League.

A club statement read: "The Venky's Group, owners of Blackburn Rovers Football Club, has today confirmed the departure of manager Sam Allardyce and assistant manager Neil McDonald with immediate effect.

"First-team coaching duties will be taken on by Steve Kean (currently first-team coach) for the immediate future.

"We have taken this decision as part of our wider plans and ambitions for the club. We would like to put on record our thanks to Mr. Allardyce for his contribution to Blackburn Rovers Football Club."

Never saw that one coming. Maybe he used to eat all the pies before the board could get their hands on them?

I know they've got new rich owners but this is still straight out of the blue. Ok, they've lost three of their last five, but they're 13th right now and the current team isn't good enough to finish higher than 10th.

Another bizarre sacking.

Well at least the Premiership is rid of the Lord Emperor of Anti-Football for a short while at least, I bet he even plays 5-4-1 on Football Manager with the long ball function on.

Just as barmy as the Newcastle decision, maybe even more so. Who are they going to bring in who will do better than Allardyce? They certainly aren't going to get a bigger name - Blackburn are hardly an easy sell.

Another example of foreign owners coming in and not having a clue what is going on - wonder what their fans think - Roverstalk, there seem to be some delighted and some devastated.

Seriously, who are they going to get in? Guus Hiddink? Come on ffs.

I don't even think the owners are that rich though. They stated they would not be investing in any players I seem to remember?

Think they said they'd invest a cool £5m in players in January. They're really going for it.

Indeed, Sam was doing a decent job.

Martin Jol and Chris Clipboard Hughton to Blackburn

I wouldn't be surprised if either one of those two gets the job.

They've replaced the rag n bone man with whatever's left on the scrapheap. Makes no sense.

I can see them going down now.

I think we should all take a deep breath before rushing in to judge. Only a week ago people were saying Mike Ashley was crazy to get rid of Chris Hughton but no-one knew what he had up his sleeve.

Actually, carry on.
