I bet Scolari asked them not to reveal that till they were out. Nice one Chelsea.

Hasn't ever managed a club side in Europe...will it work?

Can't spikka da lingo either. That recruitment smacks of desperation to me. They may just have well stick with Grant.

Personally I think it is a piss poor choice and I would be less than chuffed if had taken the Spurs job.

Ultimately, he has not proven himself in club football and the national teams he has managed were Brazil and Portugal. Anyone should have a fair chance of success managing the Brazil team he had and Portugal have some damn good players as well. If anything, I think his Portugal team have underperformed during his time in charge.

No better than Avram Grant and certainly not as good as Mourinho IMO.

edit: any gossip coming out o the Chelski forums yet are have they not even realised

I like the way the wiki page doesn't say what he's won in club football, other than being South American coach of the year twice, but does include such useful information as "Beef is his chosen meat, although he sometimes appreciates the texture of Bulgarian Mountain Goat."

So, did Rijkaard not want to coach Chavski? Or did Roman not want Rijkaard?

Given Abramovich reputedly wants to win playing attacking football, Rijkaard was head-and-shoulders the obvious choice. And he speaks better English than most of the Chavski squad - unlike Big Phil...

I think he'll do well, mainly because Chelsea have got a bunch of very good players that my gran could manage and still do well with.

I expect them to get off to a good start anyway, and once Big Phil gets to grips with the premiership, they'll do even better.

As for coming and goings, any star that leaves will just be replaced by another, probably bigger star. The only real hope we have of Chelsea fucking up, aside from Abramovic leaving (even then, i doubt they'd implode), is if they have a mini disaster, like a coach crash where everyone involved is ok but they all suffer ligament damage. Bad ligament damage. Ok, maybe Drogba's leg has to be amputated.
