Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp has targeted Scott Parker to lead his relegated team back to the Premier League, writes Alan Nixon.
Redknapp is returning to former club Tottenham for the midfield general, who was one of his best buys for the White Hart lane club.
Parker has had an injury-hit campaign, and Spurs – seeking to strengthen in the middle of the park themselves over the summer – may cash in on the 32-year-old.
Redknapp knows Parker well and will try to persuade QPR owner Tony Fernandes that the experienced England international is an ideal man to both change the culture and improve the playing style at Loftus Road.
Parker could also collect a big final pay-day if he becomes another of the Hoops' high-earning stars.
It would probably mean the end of his England ambitions in a World Cup year however, so this would be a huge decision for him.
Quality signings are uppermost in the mind of Redknapp, who has claimed the current squad wouldn't finish in the top half of the Championship, as he aims for instant promotion back to the top flight with a new-look team.
Parker’s chances may also be reduced at Spurs, whose plans for a close-season revamp including Wigan midfielder James McCarthy.

I know he gets slated alot on here but I think he does well for us and his heart is in it. I would however accept a million or two for a 32 year old and im sure his wages are fairly steep. If he stays im happy enough but so long as he knows hes backup to sandro. In saying that I realise he probably wont stay because hes a player that wants to play....so if he leaves- good luck

He still offers a lot more than Huddletron or Ploddermore who I would much rather left before Parker, but if there is the chance of getting some money for a 32 year old Levy will be all over it and rightly so.

It's Harry that want's him allegedly according to the above.

How much do QPR want Harry ? I personally don't think he is safe from the Grim Reaper himself.

QPR have to fit into a (almost) break even financial fair play system next season. They wont be spending big on players or wages.

Has been a good signing for us and done well over the last two seasons, and deserves respect.
However Scott's problem is he is getting on a bit in terms of footballers and if we dont sell him now we wont get anything for him next year, and we would definately have to replace him next year anyway.
In conclusion thanks Scotty, but we need to cash in to enable us to build for the future and although you are still a good player you no longer represent our future, harsh but true.

I'd be surprised if he went,it's his last chance to go to a major tournament with England, and he's not going to get picked playing in the championship.Redknapp can "target" all he wants, and as long as Scotty doesn't mind playing second fiddle to the beast,I'm happy to keep him.
He's not very pretty to watch, but we'd have been right in the shit if ,when Sandro got injured, we didnt have Scotty in the wings.

Didn't we used to consider Alan Nixon to be someone Harry feeds information to when he was here?

Questions are when will Sandro be ready and fit enough to play again and will Dembele need an op in summer. I have a feeling both might not be ready for the start of the season.
If we buy say a Strootman, Capoue or Clasie it won't be an issue and we could sell Scotty in summer, but if we don't we might be a bit thin in terms of defensive mids early on

I think they will be offloading some if their bigger purchases like Samba and Remy etc, can't see them wanting to play Championship level football. Even the likes of Hoilett, SWP, Zamora, Cisse and Taarabt will be looking to get gone.
That sort of player turnover will free up the necessary fees/wages for Harry to reshape his squad. Parker as an onfield general, given their history, and his waning influence at Spurs, makes a fair bit of sense.

The quote about how the team would not finish top half of championship is classic Harry. It's that kind of pressure for the chairman to keep spending that saw him help nearly put two clubs out of business.

I also saw how he didn't think QPRs relegation was his fault as he didn't have enough time to bring his own players in! Like he didn't know what situation he was walking into.

Harry Redknapp only looks after Harry Redknapp.

I'd like to see us get in Morgan Schneiderlin as a replacement for Scotty in that back-up DM role. Very impressed with him this season.

Believe he's the only one that was close to Sandro in interceptions. It was incredible that Sandro had the most interceptions for a midfielder even like a month and a half after his injury.

Schneiderlin has had 138 interceptions over the year, that's a pretty fantastic number.

Schneiderlin is good but we should look at our options first and we have Massimo Luongo and Milos Vejlkovic in the making. So i am not sure if we should spend money for anither back-up DM.

Would be good if we sell Scotty. Thanks for everything but he was pretty useless this season imo

While I agree with your principle neither of those are near capable of first team football yet. Luongo is the better of those 2, and he needs a championship loan next year to get regular football and develop. Ideally a lower prem club but I can't see any that would be willing to give him regular football as his only real quality loan was at Ipswich and was unfortunately cut short.

The one I am most worried about is Carroll, especially with links to players like KPB, as surely these will only push him further down the pecking order, and I think he really is a gem of a player we need to blood in ASAP.

In these days of swaps  (not!) what about Scotty and a bit of cash for Remy? Might well end up suiting both parties, as Remy might not want to stay there?
