Having thought long and hard about different formations, lone strikers, hole players, overlapping full backs and every other combination, I have decided that the best way to combat Stoke is as follows;

Anyone have any more subtle 'secret' plans?

Incidentally, I saw a player booked the other day for standing on the pitch in front of the thrower.
Why is that illegal?
I thought as long as you don't jump it was OK. Any refs here?

At least we have a keeper who doesn't mind taking out friend and foe alike to punch clear. Then two on the posts and job done.

Arteta wasn't it?! And yeah... it was insane, I'm absolutely certain it's legal... i've seen teams do it against the scum on a few occasions and no ones ever been booked for it?!!?

It used to be legal, but the rule was changed before last season, now it's bookable.

Chainsaw his arms off. I'd like to see how far he can throw it then.

If we gave David Bentley the chainsaw then sure he'd be sent off and we'd be down to ten men, but they'd be attackingly speaking screwed, so we'd still be fine. Especially as it's David Bentley and if he continues his early season form, he may as well not be on the pitch, anyway.

It's no wonder people accuse Ramos of tactical naivety if he's failing to come up with ideas like the above.

We get caught on the counter-attack too easy at the moment. So an all out attack isn't ideal. My biggest concern will be at set-pieces in this one. Maybe Corluka at right back with King and Woodgate at centre back, and Bale at left back, will give us plenty of height at the back. Those long throws better be dealt with too.

With Pavyluchenko out injured, and possibly Lennon too, i think now is the time for Giovani to start. Maybe on the left with Bentley on the right. Zokora and Jenas in the middle, and Modric playing behind the frontman Bent.

An even worse yellow card was the one for Riquelme in the Argentina Vs Uruguay match. He got booked for taking a quick free-kick. Eek

Gomes will punch the throw straight to one of their players.

It's his speciality

I know this isnt relevant to the game on Sunday, but in the return game we would be made not to bring the advertising boards as close to the pitch as possible/legal That would stop his run up and therefore they wouldnt be able to do it effecively.

Dont know why teams havent done that yet when hosting Stoke-it doesnt take a genius to figure that system out!

I think you can stand infront of the thrower, but must be 1 yard back.

Standing in front of the thrower can be classed as a referee as unsporting behaviour and is therefore a booking:duh:
