Reasons to be cheerful

Monday night's result at Stamford Bridge confirmed Leicester City as the Premier League champions. To echo what's already been said and written, congratulations to Claudio Ranieri, his staff and his players on what was an unthinkable achievement not that long ago.

Everyone seems to be talking about Spurs losing the plot at Chelsea. I'd disagree with that sentiment. What you saw were players fighting for each other. Players who were hurt. Players who were emotional as the reality of the situation began to hit them having lost a two goal lead. It's true that they have to be able to control their aggression but with experience, this young group of players will learn that. I imagine that the fans would rather see their players go too far than not put up a fight at all.

Maybe now isn't the right time for reflection but with second place so close to being secured, this has been a positive season, the best in living memory. You have to go back to 1962/63 to find a group of players that have achieved as much. The quality of the football has been first class, a real joy to watch. Only last month the wins over Manchester United and Stoke were like nothing we'd seen before. What a team!

As if to reiterate how impressive the players have been, the core of this season could easily provide nearly half of the starting XI for England this summer. There's no reason why any other player should be starting ahead of Walker, Rose, Dier, Alli or Kane. That too is something to be immensely proud of.

On top of that there's the manager. You have to remember that he has a plan, he's building for the future. The club are way ahead of where anyone could have imagined they'd be at the start of the season. Champions League football will only attract more top players to The Lane. Roll on next season. Tottenham Hotspur are here to stay...!!

I loved Anderton, defended him to the hilt constantly. It is a bit funny that the kind of 'fight' in players he's praising is something he was not exactly renowned for bless him! He probably played in the era where we displayed our (now consigned to history) flaky tendencies more than any other. Still love him though, the Leeds, Newcastle, Sweden and Colombia goals are highlights

Good comments from Dazza.

His interview on the Spurs Show is good listening. He speaks quite freely about joining us and his time at thfc.

Watched him in a charity match on Channel 5 on Sunday, he's still got it!

He was my best player during the 90's, always talks sense.

Nice one Dazza. Teams are trying to put Spurs down because they're worried about us, when was the last time we could say that?

I remember discussing with @talkshowhost86 one cold windy night at the Lane and he said he preferred Anderton to Ginola.

@talkshowhost86 and I haven't spoken since. ;)

But I do have a fondness for ol' Shaggy.

He was a great player, just a shame he was so injury hit.

I think if he was playing now, he would not have half the problems he had. I think he would have flourished as he was so naturally talented.

Can you imagine him going in for a tackle with the ferocity of Dier? It would be like throwing a flourescent tube end-on into a wall...

Fair play to Anderton. For all his undoubted talent, to me he represented everything that was bad about Tottenham for ten years after 1993 - much too flaky and nowhere near enough heart.

He's redeemed himself in my eyes with this.

I remember hearing how we informed him he was being let go.
Wasn't very good but he's still loyal to the club.
What a guy lol
Agree if he was playing today he'd probably have had a lot less injuries and obviously, given how injury prone he was, he was never going to go crunching into tackles like a loon.
Great player.
