Tottenham are rivalling Arsenal in the bid to sign Toulouse right-back Serge Aurier.

Talks are already underway for Swansea left-back Ben Davies but coach Mauricio Pochettino is also chasing a right-back with Kyle Walker recuperating from a pelvic injury.

Aurier has been one of the few successes for Ivory Coast in a disappointing World Cup campaign.

The 21-year-old has looked exciting going forward and would suit Tottenham's style.

He was clocked running at 33.52km/h during the World Cup group game against Colombia - faster than Arjen Robben - and thankfully in the right direction.

Arsenal have long been considered favourites for his signature while Marseille have also shown an interest but Tottenham hope to steal a march over the coming days.

They are awaiting an improved offer from Hull for defender Michael Dawson who they will sell for the right price.

Hull and Tottenham also had an interest in Hector Moreno of Espanyol but any move for the Mexican is on hold after he broke his leg against Holland on Sunday.

I'm sure on physio room it has Walker's return date as around Jan 2015!

We certainly need a quality RB, not sure about Aurier though. With Corchia having just signed for Lille I think we should be thinking about Vrsaljko

We have no need for a right back. Walker was one of our best players before his injury and is already one of the best RBs in the PL.

Walker has no brain, great pace, great stamina, can't defend for toffee and very mixed going forward. Naughton has even less going for him as he doesn't have the same pace as Walker but does have all the flaws

We need a quality RB

Agree. There's like 6 positions we have to upgrade before thinking of a new RB. And we don't have a Sheik to buy a whole new team

I agree Walker has flaws in his game but I don't think right back is a priority area to strengthen. Walker does a decent job most of the time.

All about opinions, but I don't think Naughton is good enough cover to play regularly at rb if needed and I believe Walker is still not fit. Has anyone read any updates on Walker?

Seen lots of Aurier. Although, as I've said elsewhere, for some inexplicable reason Casanova (Toulouse coach) has spent a good chunk of the season playing him as a LCB of three CB's. It was a really odd thing to do as he is clearly a RB and the alternative was often to play the idiot Ninkov who makes Naughton look like Cafu.

Toulouse play a (352) system that heavily relies on the full backs providing the attacking width. (With Sylla on the left usually)

He is quick, powerful and likes to bomb forward and although only 21 with the possibility of learning, he does have some of the traits of Walker. He's not the smartest cookie. Going forward his end product can be a bit erratic and but I think is marginally better than Walker's and definitely better than Walker's was at 21. I think he's scored and assisted 10-12 combined this season, which considering he's only played about 15 games at RB is pretty decent numbers for a 21yo RB . Defensively he does have the odd blunder in him (more so when he played as a CB than a RB to be fair). His reading and positional sense is not quite as bad as Walkers but can be a little suspect at times. But again, we need to remember he is only 21 I guess.

I don't have a very high opinion of Walker at all, so if we could sell him for decent money I'd have no worries trying Aurier and hoping he can polish up his weaknesses as he gets older, he certainly wouldn't be any worse than Walker and could end up a distinct improvement. But I'm not sure how much of an improvement he'd end up being if he didn't improve much.

Unfortunately though, I reckon we are stuck with Walker for the foreseeable.

What a surprise. @Bus-Conductor failing to recognise someone had a good season because he has his own agendas against them that he refuses to let go of.

I'm so surprised- I never could've seen this coming.

Thankfully the sensible people on here recognise that Kyle Walker had a very good season before his injury.

He made numerous errors, some very costly, he contributed very little going forward (1 goal, 2 assists) which is a major part of his remit, his defending continues to be erratic.

What was so good about his season exactly ?

I think if he played for Liverpool you'd be laughing at him on a weekly basis, as you probably do Glen Johnson, but because you can't separate your bias (your agenda) from reality you laud Walker instead.

What has Glen Johnson got to do with this?

I must admit, I see little discernible difference between Glen Johnson and Kyle Walker.

It's not a position of necessity to upgrade granted and there is a real dearth of good right fullbacks/wingbacks but I can't say i'm every truly 'happy' when Walker is lining up for us as there is always a brain-fart in him - regardless of whether he's having a blinder or not!

Think he will go to Arsenal. Also we don't need a new RB.
Arsenal are being linked with Debuchy in lequipe today. Might be a cunning rouse to get Toulouse to decide on a reasonable price or miss out entirely.

Personally thought Walker was one of our best players last year (admittedly not tough to achieve given the performances of most) until he got injured. Seems like he's always going to be one of those players that a number of fans don't take to though, a bit like Lennon in that respect.

I like what I've seen of Aurier, I just don't think we need him at this time. Walker makes some naive decisions defensively, but more often than not has the pace to get himself (and quite often others - hi Daws) out of trouble.

Seems to be a wild swing of opinion on here of Walker. Some thinking he's turd and others thinking he was one of our best players.

Neither are true IMO.

He was fine up to when he got injured but nothing special. He can defend and does it well at times but he's also prone to a lack of concentration, which seemed to be a common affliction for our defenders last season, hence all of the careless errors.

My biggest frustration with him in his final ball. He hits the first man so often it drives me crazy.

That said he has potential to be excellent and is better than Glen Johnson and Nathaniel Clyne who are comparable english RB's. However, I have to admit that he is probably gonna be one of those players that will always split the fan base, I like him and think he will get better next season.
