Given is a great goalie no doubt. I still think Gomes can do the business for us, if Harry can make James solid on crosses then he can do it for the big Brazilian too.

Or maybe not write players off after five minutes?

Yep exactley, lets give Gomes til January at least, he is a quality goalkeeper who right now is very low on form, he just needs more hugs from Harry and he'll be fine, maybe that Chinese tonight will cheer him up a bit.

No. Merely indulging in a little hyperbole at the expense of those who love to write our players off in as short a time as possible.

Most of you have already been given a big slap in the face by Bent, and some by Modric. Why so quick to write players off? We should be supporting them.

Through a straw, presumably.

Track my posts over the years mate and you will see i have more faith in our squad than 90% of posters. But for god sake who was by FAR the weak link today? If your happy with under standard players then fine but the outfield ten did not deserve that tonight and you know it.

I want HG to be good but he seems pretty seriously flawed for me. Looking back to the PSV games, his shot stopping was great but he was equally inept with crosses. How long can we afford for him to put points at risk?

We would need to ship him out before we got someone else and I dont see many coming in for a decent fee in this form.

Only Spurs fans could focus on the one negative from a night when we won 4-2 and saw some quite brilliant performances from our players all over the park.

Thank fucking fuck you're not a Chelsea fan.

Come on chaps, quickly? Read my posts never slag a spurs player off but the lad is not up to the English game at the moment IMO. If he can be trained otherwise then great but how many games like tonight can you put up with?

Exactly mate. Brilliant performances with one weak link. I hope he proves me wrong but why did we get rid of Robbo?

You are joking me right?

Robbo would have done nothing different tonight, so we'd still have conceded and there'd still be lots on here who thought he was a nice bloke but a shit keeper.

I have more faith in Gomes than I did Robbo last season.

Opta stats have made Given the only keeper to receive the 'worst keeper of the weekend' twice. I do rate Given but why have none of the big boys ever come in for him, passing interest once upon a time from Woolwich but that's it. Gomes should at the very least get the season to prove himself

Pick the key phrase from that clause.

Before the Arsenal game Gomes was one of the OPTA top five keepers on the saves/shots rating. That doesn't say everything, but it says a good deal (at least according to those who used it to write off Robbo). Right, there is a big difference between the EPL and Eredivisie—in Holland you don't have anywhere near so many high balls into the box, or six-footers piling in with elbows flying, so there is going to be a degree of adjustment.

We are far too fond of writing off players on the basis of a handful of games, and of changing opinions on the same basis.

Gomes had a crap game tonight and we gifted them 2 goals - HOWEVER he is a class keeper that is lacking in confidence and has had to play behind an ever changing back line.

He needs a chance to improve and improve he will, he was class and will be class again - there you have it my support until you prove me wrong at the end of the season. Don't forget how quick everyone wrote off calamity James, keeper of the season last year, no?
