Exactly mate. Brilliant performances with one weak link. I hope he proves me wrong but why did we get rid of Robbo?

Because he was shit for a whole season after years of premiership experience. Gomes has not and will not cost us as many goals as Robbo.

Lets just agree that we all see things differently. You think he is worthwhile and you are allowed to. I think he is a liability and that is allowed too. I will not tell you your thinking is flawed on this, but I take exception to being told that I have had my views for 5 minutes and hinted that its the same when any player is off form.

Were you told you have had your views for five minutes? I think not. It doesn't appear to have crossed your mind that some of us had seen a great deal more of Gomes than YouTube compilations of his greatest saves.

Meanwhile, has anyone checked Newcastle's GA column lately?

So we agree to differ, or do you just want to argue?

From Stetanta, Opta stats:
Shay Given has the dubious distinction of being only the second goalie to be ranked worst keeper twice this season.
His role in his side’s defeat to lowly Fulham was sufficiently poor to warrant this return to this column, as he managed only one save in the entire match and not a single catch, sending Newcastle crashing to a 2-1 defeat at Craven Cottage, unable to stop either Andy Johnson’s drive or Danny Murphy’s penalty.

Jääskeläinen: 46 saves, 78%
Carson: 55 saves, 72%
Friedel: 42 saves, 72%
Howard: 49 saves, 71%
James: 44 saves, 71%
Almunia/Fabianski: 32 saves, 71%
Gomes: 42 saves, 70%
Green: 39 saves, 64%
Given: 36 saves, 64%
Robinson/Brown: 33 saves, 60%
Hart: 32 saves, 60%

Shocking. Absolutely useless.

And stats over the last 2 weeks prove that we are the best team in the prem, or before the last 2 weeks that we were the worst team. Neither of which is true.
So is it possible to have a different opinion from yours or do you feel the need to convert? This is my third time of asking.

Of course it's possible to have an opinion different to mine. You're perfectly entitled to be wrong.

The problem is all keepers are shown up when it comes to catching crosses.

James - More dropped crosses than any other keeper in the PL.
Cech - Not the same since the incident at Reading, who remembers the clanger that eliminated the Czechs from the Euros?
Given - Can tend to stay rooted to the line much like our former keeper.
Van der Sar - My brother who watches most of ther games has been very critical, vey lacking in the brvery departmen.

These are the top keepers and they're no beter than what we have.

I still have faith in Gomes.

It was only a few weeks ago where we were languishing at the bottom with just 2 points, and people were celebrating our only decent signing - Gomes.

Lets look at the positives
1. He is a great shot stopper.
2. He is very commanding in the area. There are countless times where he has come out and claimed the ball in packed areas.
3. He is brave
4. He is happy to take responsibility.
5. He is a huge presence in goal.

Negatives:
1. He seems to flap - down to poor decision making.
2. He is a poor kicker,
3. Not that confident with back passes.

I really do like Gomes. I would rather a keeper come to claim the ball. What Harry needs to work on is his decision making and his kicking.

Give him more time - he will come good.

Thing with Gomes is that for every great save he makes, he makes an howler, which is not good. He needs to get these howlers out of his game.

the 10 men in front of him don't deserve his performances? the ten men in front of him didn't deserve his when we were playing shit for the first 9 games.

when your defence is obviously incredibly poor defending set pieces of course your going to come out for more crosses than you should.

Talking about any individual player out of context/on their own - this is more so with a GK as their errors are more visable. The whole defensive unit/system needs looking at surely?

Kendall, haven't you learnt from Darren Bent that you look a bit thick when you write players off after a dozen games for the club?

Or maybe not write players off after five minutes?

Another game another "Low confidence error". I will stick by him tho, even if we go down cos we are not allowed to admit we have bought a dud. Roll on the next game.
