I still absolutely lurve every single bit of business we did this summer, except not getting in a LB and selling Caulker and even then, we had a rip-snorter of a transfer window.

really? - the words expensively average come to mind to a man

Moutinho and Hulk moved for what, combined £70m out of Porto. Surely we might have had Hulk bit cheaper from the Zenit, but then again he would've demanded huge wages he was earning there.

Lamela, Eriksen, Chiriches and Chadli cost combined lot less than that £70m.

Oh, and I am pretty glad we never went the Hulk route.

Moutinho was a pre-Bale / post VDV Modric target (who we nearly landed, had it not be a quibble over £0.5M) so that doesn't count. I'm thrilled that you're glad we didn't get Hulk, thus helping make AVB's job even tougher in a post Bale Spurs. But no need to worry - Levy probably saw to that too.

Fine, this discussion is probably academic anyway, but from where I sit, our chances of making top four just got slashed by ousting AVB after progressively undermining him at every turn.

The key thing over the next 3 months is seeing evidence of tim learning.

The first 3 games have proved he cant play 4-4-2 with our squad and most importantly, the modern game doesnt allow it.

So if we see changes in the next 4-5 games that suggest he is moving away from that i will be happy.

We have to give him time to implement his ideas. And that takes time on the training pitch which he is yet to have.
I think our squad could do it actually. If you look at how Man City have been doing it, Yaya and Fernandinho as the 'two' in the middle. Both are what I would call 'box to box' players that can do a bit of everything but first and foremost can get up and down. We could replicate this with Paulinho and Dembele, Sandro and Capoue are pretty good athletes too. It would mean moving the likes of Eriksen to a wider role. Just for the record, I prefer playing one striker and a No10, so I'm not a massive fan of the 4-4-2, but we deffo do have the players to play it.

When Alex was at Spurs I know exactly what role he played. I'm not giving an opinion but facts.

Credit to Tim for that result but that's one result. My point is that AI & CR gave had a bigger hand in the success of our youth teams than TS has. I know this, it's not opinion! And despite what anyone says about the 21s setup a lot of club coaches would prefer the old system if reserve league football as they believe it prepares players better for first team than the 21 system. These coaches are people who have been involved in the game at the top level all their career. The 21s system is closer to youth/academy football than it is the first team.

And coaching young players /development is different to coaching established international footballers. It's not to say that coaches can't step up because countless numbers have but experience at 21s/youth/academy isn't enough. The environment is different and serving an apprenticeship at first team level is a must IMO - that means, assistant manager/coach type roles. I also know for a fact that TS does not believe or trust in modern footballing philosophies of sports science support - instead he "trusts his eye". This again is fact not opinion.

Most of our first team squad would not know Tim for being a player but for his role at the club over the last two years and in that time he has had little contact with our first team squad & done very little else of note. I can only imagine what some players are thinking & fear that some will want out if we finish 7/8th and further away from CL qualification than when they signed!

I totally agree with this, I have spent time at many premiership clubs looking at their Academy and I have to admit that sometimes it was like an old boys club. There is a huge difference between Academy and First Team level, that is why a lot of these younger players go on loan, to actually see what they are made of. Coaches are given a philosophy and that's what they try and instill in the players. That philosophy means nothing if the first team players haven't come from the academy and play a different system of play. My issue with Sherwood is not the lack of managerial experience but a total disregard for the philosophy of which he as technical director would have installed in a 4-3-3 system of play or similar variants with the academy and not to do it with the first team when most of those players had come from playing similar systems is mind boggling.

I hope you are right but they look like 4-5 Klebersons to me

So again, are our players just poor and AVB was doing a good job or do we have a lot of new players constantly being shuffled around at random having just arrived to a new country and league a few months ago and being managed poorly.

We can't have it both ways.

I never wanted AVB to go, it's obvious the players need time but time is something the fans and Levy are short on giving

With you there. AVB was infuriating even me but I still had hope. He clearly had some growing up to do as a coach still but he's being treated like a Ramos mk II by some. Ridiculous.

Anyways, we're onto the next victim, Tim now. I've got the wreath ready already when DL decides to swing the axe again.

I would ignore this Josiebyar, they have disliked most of my comments in this thread and his / her posts have shown nothing but contempt to Sherwood.

Indeed josiebyar seems very childish and clearly hasn't a clue what he/she is on about judging by the comment about what avb's job was at Chelsea

Sherwood is clueless manager... LMAO with his 442 and his selection and substitution is just shambolic.

I give him 2 more games... he'll be out.

Agree. Seems it just chuck as many attacking players in the team as possible and hope they an win us the game with little or no attacking or defending strategy.

Some academies Id agree with what you said mate but others really demonstrate how important modern methods are. I've been to some clubs who analyse every session and game and players have access to footage of every action they performed in training and matches. They are also told their physical performance stats and individual plans are developed for them.

Again the best performing academies are those who constantly and consistently produce first team players season in season out!

Like it or not, the game has become about more than just technical and tactical. We need a manager that understands this particularly now given the age and experience of most of our squad.

I was really pissed off with that yesterday. Not because we didn't win, but because we didn't give ourselves the best possible chance of doing so.

Sherwood is going to get time so we might as well all get fully behind him if we're not confident. He's going to need to learn very quickly or this could be a real shambles with many beatings on the cards. West Brom carved through us with ease a times yesterday and if he hasn't learnt from that God give us strength.

United away is a petrifying thought at the moment. Dembele had better be back for that.
