Crikey, a rational post putting forward an alternative perspective in a convincing way. What's Spurscommunity coming to?

Agreed, if we let them go then best of luck to them.

Sorry, I've really let the team down there haven't I... promise it'll never happen again

The same man management skills that led to him coming out and proclaiming half of the squad he was working with at THFC wasn't good enough, just a week or so after telling the world he was happy with that squad, and would be happy if the transfer window closed that day ?

Or the same man management skills that proudly proclaimed "I don't tell Ade what to do, I just let him go out and do his thing" ?

And where Townsend is concerned, Sherwood was his manager for 6 months, and still got the square route of fuck all out of him. I'm not being argumentative towards you, I'm just saying he doesn't have what you appear to believe he has (y)
You might be right about Sherwood and Townsend; you're almost definitely wrong about Sherwood and Ade. Sometimes good man-management means telling a player to just do their thing. Mavericks don't play by the same rules as everyone else; if you try to tie a maverick down to the wrong rules, you inevitably get the wrong result.

Maybe it takes a maverick manager to know a maverick player.

And yet you have to admit, he went to a Villa side that was only heading one way, downwards, and changed them around in next to no time into a side that believed in themselves, and that they could avoid the drop.

I wouldn't. Townsend is an England international, and - in his day - Ade has been a world class striker.

With his man-management skills, Sherwood could get both playing to their potential.

He did with Ade, 14 goals in just 26 games i think.

They beat us at the Lane as well. Some of us have a tough time accepting that Tim is actually a good manager. What really riles me is how much media portrayal can influence opinion - rather than what actually happens on the pitch. Because of the way they portray themselves in the media, people think that the likes of Benitez and AVB are these tactical geniuses who are let down by Chairmen. But when the likes of Harry and Tim beat them (remember Bale versus Inter at the Lane) then it's because they told the players to "fcking run about a bit". Bollocks - they are good managers - tactically and man managers.

Yes, bad night on MODT and the british publics view of said player is tarnished for a long time. Daft.
