How do you know it wasn't?

because he's watching tonight

nah, you would like to think it was - well he did when we played them last season, but you would like to think there would be a few scouting reports in his bedside cabinet beside his durex Eek

He was probably towards the bottom of our list having failed to lure superior targets to the club, hence the need to fly out to Holland to watch the guy play.

Well, fact is, brett, you don't have the first clue what's really going on, same as the rest of us. It's pretty ironic that you got banned from Transfer Rumours for being a total arse, as outlined by A&C yesterday, yet are spouting bullshit here like you actually know what's going on.

Sounds like we might have Adebayor which could be a fantastic signing

Man City must be pissed.

Could anyone have predicted that we'd have Gallas and Adebayor in our team 2 years ago. SURREAL!

THIS!! :duh:

Fucking amateur. Can't believe he didn't scout towards the end of last season to check out potential signings?! He had plenty of time seeing as he'd only be at the lodge a few days a week. Suppose he was too busy with other Media work.

He was at the QPR V Bolton game last week to watch Cahill, very necessary seeing as he's played under his nose in the prem all his career.

What a shoddy display by our club in This transfer window. I'm embarrassed.
It's not about getting players in before the window shuts, it's about getting them over preseason and allowing them to integrate into the squad BEFORE the season starts.
We've been absolute rubbish, again. Don't even give me the 'be patient' responses. The season has begun and we haven't done a thing to build on last year (don't even try and include that 40 year old in the equation)
Someone at the club is responsible, team levy or redknapp, I don't know, but things haven't been run correctly somehow, that's for sure.
Accept that we're not a champions league club anymore and stop trying to go for targets that are unrealistic. What a waste of time.
I can understand that someone like Everton haven t done any business either, because their skint! We're rolling in it (hence the massive aguero bid that time). I hate all the crap redknapp has been saying all summer about needing to sign to stay among the top crop, as though it's none of his responsibility and all levy's. It's a complete joke at the moment!

It's all gone quiet, all gone quiet, all gone quiet over there!

His point was that we should try to do our business early in the transfer window to allow new players to settle in. We are known for leaving things till the last minute and it has blown up in our face quite a few times.

The thread was then hijacked by people saying that he meant we've got no chance of signing good players. Of course we can do last minute deals and sometimes they come off but it's not the best strategy because they often fall through.

Some notable examples were

1. Comolli thought he had Milito on an agreement to replace Berbatov. Just before the window closed the deal was broken and we ended up begging for Fraizer Cambell. Nearly relegated.

2. Andre Arshavin. Went till the last minute then the deal collapsed. With no partner up front Pav struggled to fit in and we plummeted into the relegation zone. Ramos was sacked.

3. No striker last christmas. The whole of January went by before Levy got his chequebook out and started waving it about. Redknapp however knew it was too little too late and again we were empty handed. We fell away from a champions league position and ended up 5th. Modric then starts talking up his desire to stay in the champions league and wanting to move to Chelsea.

ETC, etc

There have been some good buys. VDV is a fantastic player. Harry really didn't know what to do with him but his quality was an asset last season.

If you want to score some cheap points AFTER we've signed someone then please fill your boots but it will mean you didn't understand his opening post.

I think all agree that the ideal is to get your business done early. So I wonder why we don't? Can you think of any reasons why? No don't bother thinking, just read some of the replies in this very thread. If you disagree with the arguments therein, come back and say why.

Anyone with half a brain should be able to list the positives and negatives of buying early or late.

Overall though, everyone agrees that it's better for the footballing side of things to buy early.

Done. Finito. No more essays please Sloth.

Good god

Yeeeeees buying earlier is better. Not one person has disagreed with that. Levy would think that. Redknapp would think that. A decomposing badger would think that.

Howeveeeeeeeer....that wasn't sloth's point was it?
