I take this with a pinch of salt....but he could be Spurs "Coutinho" signing (as many of you may know he had several "issues" at Inter before he joined Liverpool and was by seen as another "wasted talent" - so credit to Rodgers for signing him).

No smoke without fire. There is an awful lot of noise about this deal not to be something in it.

Tottenham to make £10m swoop for Pato.
Former AC Milan striker’s representatives understood to be in London for talks

Isnt Pato not supposed to be a bit of a bad egg ? I wouldnt want anyone coming in and upsetting the team spirit we have going at the moment.

Havent seen enough of Pato recently to be able to make an informed opinion on this. Started his career well at Milan, then had some bad injuries.

Used to look a talent, not sure if he is too lightweight for the prem. For a backup for Kane, maybe we need a proven premier league player?

We don't need any more wide forwards, which Pato now plays exclusively. Just typical media tripe.

Very few teams in world football create clear cut chances anymore. Defences have become too good. Something like 80% o goals are now scored as a result of individual errors, rather than created.

I think Mason is an excellent creative player. He occasionally lacks in the execution, but his brain is certainly there. Ironically Eriksen is the opposite - he has the execution but isn't quite there with the vision

If most goals result from errors doesn't that mean that defenses are bad, not good?

He always did.

He played on the right in a 433 set up for Milan in their hey day. He is not a striker a la the Hurricane.

IIFC 'dino on the left and Inzagi in the middle

He can and has played as a lone striker though.
He can, and he has, but he doesn't. Not currently. We already have Son and Njie, two wide forwards who can play up top in a pinch. What we need is a proper No. 9 to keep Kane on his toes and fill in for him in case of injury.

I'd much rather we bring in say, Slimani, who is big and physical and would suit Poch's pressing game perfectly than another WF like Pato.

That's not to say he still doesn't have it in him and I certainly don't think we are in that much of a desperate need of a player who can exclusively play the lone role which is why we were after players like Ings, Berahino and Martial who are more versatile players who can play across the front line.

Dier hadn't played as a DMF since he first started at Lisbon but look at him now, players don't lose the ability to play in one role regardless.

With Son and Njie, we are well-stocked with versatile wide forwards who can fill in at striker. What we lack is someone who can fill the same role in the team as Kane -- holding up the ball and getting on the end of chances when in possession, and triggering the press when out of possession.

I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Pato can re-adjust to the No. 9 position simply because he played there in the past, particularly in England. Injuries are of course what wrecked his career, and I don't think it's a coincidence that he's enjoying something of a renaissance playing in a less physically demanding position out wide. Would his body be able to cope with battling PL center backs week in and week out the way Kane must? I'm not so sure.
