He obviously isnt a world beater, but he looks like a great back up for Kane to me. Most importantly he has the workrate.

1. Serie A isn't depressing. For instance, they've got 3 teams left in European competitions when no teams are left from Premier League.
2. Juventus always want anyone and everyone remotely close to kicking a ball for the national team
3. A less intelligent player than Ings has no place in Spurs (as I believe intelligence is one of the things we've been lacking too much)
4. The bit in bold can be said about every second striker on the planet, and the bit in italic is Adebayor in a nutshell.

I was agreeing with you initially, and to each their own but it's pretty unanimous that Serie A is nothing compared to what it used to be. Listen back to the most recent Derby della Madonnina and you'd think both teams were in Serie B from the commentary from English and Italian pundits alike. And there's a lot more that goes into why teams are still in European competition than a straight up who's better than who (see: December) but that's for another thread.

None of those players listed are italian and the current juve has one of the least italian starting squads in the league. I don't think they have an italian national agenda as you suggest as much they do a winning one.

And I disagree with 3 & 4 because I do not believe every player has the willingness to change (ie. Adebayor) and I'm assuming if we're so strongly linked with Zaza that Poch and Mitchell do not think it's a similar case for him. If there's a throughline to our new transfer policy, it seems clear that we're looking for young, talented players but the key is that they're still moldable (ex. Stöger's quotes on Wimmer).

Let's not forget Kane is going to be first choice for us. If we can't get Ings then what other decent strikers are available for a good price to play second fiddle? Seems good enough to be a squad player for us and still only 23.

I know we need more first team quality but in terms of strikers this is an exception as all we need is some decent cover for Kane or someone different to bring off the bench which I think he would be.

Cause he is so reliable isn't he
While I was sceptical in the last 2 windows, I think he's proved he is.

Furthermore:

a. Italian journalists really do know fuck all and aren't reliable
b. CEOs/Agents always seem to lie about bids for players (especially from us) to drum up interest. An example from January- Fenerbache said we had bid for Emenike when it was clearly not true.

I don't think he has proved anything. He is full of shit just as much as Italian journalist. All as bad as each other.

So you're saying all journalists are shit?

Even if you think Lyall is, I don't see how one could think that we actually bid 18 million euros for this guy.

Isn't he the guy that shoots down all the rumours, then deletes his tweets if he gets it wrong?

Think Lyall is the guy who works for Sky out in Swansea who was doing all the reporting on the Davies/Vorm/Siggy deal as well as the coverage of our interest in Schneiderlin.

Think he has been alright on a few things and missed on few others.....so pretty much like everyone else except i don't think Lyall puts the volume out there compared to others.

He's done alright, but @225 is right, his report of "Besiktas have no interest in Kaboul" only to be followed up within hours by Besiktas' manager himself coming out to specifically say "yes I want Kaboul," and him promptly deleting the original tweet, was quite amusing.
