Am I alone in thinking United are using sky sports as a press outlet?
Every 5 fucking minutes they're a story on sky sports about;

Who united want
Are they a good fit for United
What the current odds are
How much united will pay
What else do united need

Etc
Etc
Etc

It's getting right on my tits.

They did it with Kane, now they're doing it with Ramos, Coleman will be next and I'm sure despite today's bombshell that they've barely lifted a finger for MS having reported he was as good as signed, will push that storey until the bitter end.

It stinks if you ask me. Really badly.

Frustrating as it is, it's hardly news. It's been like this for as long as I remember.

You mean by appealing to their 'tard arrogant fans that assume they'll sign every single player they're linked to?

United are big news to most football fans. Sky take advantage of that by highlighting United stories.

I'm not sure what the complaint here is tbh...it's not like Madrid are particularly trying to keep the Ramos story under wraps. And you're barmy if you think every club doesn't use the media as and when they can, including us. United aren't worse just because they're better placed to use the media to their advantage.

It feels decidedly worse this season than any other.
That's why I've got the hump. It really feels like a deliberate attempt by sky to promote all things united.
Almost as if united have actively said said to sky "we'll feed you stories, you hammer everything united day and night and, due to this, we'll increase our profile and get even more money"

It's almost as if it's too convenient that it's got like this at the same time they're broken and trying to pick themselves back up.

I don't really care about united marketing themselves, but surely if this is going on, sky are providing them with an unfair platform to continue growing?

Ramos mum has said he's staying in Spain so looks like that may have been bollocks as well.

It's his advisors (his Mum) pushing RM for one last big bumper pay packet before he actually does go after 12 /13 seasons.

Same as when they nobbled Berbatov, it was the Breaking News rumour for weeks until something happened!

It seems the humbled Manure period has well and truly finished. The old arrogance and pseudo tapping up has indeed returned.

18 months of those two years, he'd be on the injury recuperation bike.

Perhaps, but if you could get one season out of him with glimpses of his best form, it would be an invaluable signing.

And he would also aid Kane immensely

I know we didn't sign anyone but that was an amazing window to be a spurs fan, we were linked with Eto, Ronaldinho, Villa, Arshavin and etc.

I kinda miss those days of being linked with those big names even if we don't sign them

I think its been this way since at least 1995. I remember Sky trying to actually buy Man Utd at one point.

Do Sky still have a stake in Man Utd's ownership?

I agree with everything you've said, but it's understandable if you recall what Richard Scudamore said a year or so ago when Utd were really in disarray. It was along the lines of how it is better for the Premier League's overall profile (and appeal and revenues) if the biggest supprted clubs are competing for the major honours. Sky have obviously cottoned onto this themselves (if they hadn't already) and have therefore adopted the following approach:

MUFC have the biggest fan base within Sky's target audience
MUFC fans will be more likely to watch SkySports News if MUFC are regularly being linked with signings (this has always been the case)
MUFC fans will also be more likely to watch Premier League coverage of MUFC if their team are winning regularly (probably only realised in the last 18 mths)
MUFC fans will also be more likely to watch other Premier League coverage if MUFC are in the title race (and therefore directly affected by the fortunes of City, Chelsea, Arsenal).
Therefore, Sky stand to boost their overall audiences for Premier League coverage if Man Utd are challenging.

Essentially this all confirms what we've always thought, that many of United's armchair 'fans' are extremely fair-weather and won't bother to take notice if they're not winning.

In theory the same applies to Liverpool but, unlike United, Liverpool's owners and Board are not as good at exploiting the relationship with the media. Also, to Liverpool's credit, their fans aren't nearly as fair-weather as those of Utd or Arsenal, so TV companies can rely on their viewing figures even when their club is finishing 6th and 7th.
