Tottenham to offer Gareth Bale new long-term deal

Tottenham are to offer Gareth Bale a new long-term contract at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old Welsh international has been in impressive form over the last three months and will be rewarded with the chance to sign a new deal that will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2015.

Bale’s early career at Tottenham was blighted by injury after his £5million move from Southampton in 2007.

He picked up a serious foot injury and then suffered from a knee problems which required surgery.

But manager Harry Redknapp has never lost faith in Bale, who admitted it took time for him to adjust to life at Tottenham. “But I have never regretted my decision to come here,” he said recently.

And Redknapp is glowing in his praise of Bale. “He has become a man,” said Redknapp.

Bale has gone ahead of Benoit Assou-Ekotto in the pecking order and the Cameroon international faces a battle to oust him from the left-back role.

Yet its just that History, you cannot blame a 20 odd year old Croatian of even Brit for not knowing about our history. Yet, if they didn't no Utd's recent history you would wonder where they had been hiding.

You can't live solely on the past, we are a great club, with a huge tradition and history. However, we are not a great club in the modern era as we have won very little and until about 5 years ago never looked like we were ever going to.

Bale has many reasons to stay at our club ranging from our fans to our future plans and the talented guys he is playing with. Our history though will not venture in to his decision. Hopefully the chance to be part of a squad who are building to be something special will however get him to sign on the dotted line.

Difference is you can only go on recent history (the last 5-10 years), our great history is far from recent. Although Arsenal haven't won anything for 5 years they have constantly excelled in the champions league and that gets them recognition. Chelsea have won the premier league twice and a few other domestic trophies and gain have excelled in Europe. I don't even need to talk about how much Utd have won in the not so distant past.

i didnt realise there was a steadfast rule on how far back in history you can go?.....who invented that?

are you saying that in 2015 if liverpool have won nothing since 2005 they will no longer be a big club?

If a player is going to sign for a club, looking back at how they have done for the last 5 -10 years is probably the best indicator of how they will do in the next 5-10 years, i.e. whilst that player is at the club. There are obviously other factors involves like amount of money available ect but this is the most important part of the clubs history for predicting what will happen next. That's why Arsenal, Chelsea, United and Liverpool are still more attractive prospects than us at the moment.

If we dont finish fourth, we need to extend contracts at the very least, it all depends then whether they consider next year will be harder to get into the CL (which I believe it will be) in which case they likely wont sign and we are better cashing in and bringing through a new generation. Like it or not, matching any of the big 4 on wages and not hvaing CL is not credible, especially given the capex on training ground and new stadium.

If we got 30m for Mod, 25m for Lennon and 23m for Bale would it be that bad a deal?

The CL and global media coverage has completely changed what constitutes a 'big club' these days. What's impressive about Spurs is that we still manage to compete to some extent financially and in terms of global fame even without ever being in the CL. There is something about our history, our style of footy and the really 'special' players (the Gazzas, Klinsmanns and Ginolas) we always seem to have in our squad that keeps us in the limelight.

Without regular CL footy though, we'll always be a second tier side in the PL and our best players WILL leave us to further their careers at 'bigger' clubs. Hopefully Bale will see that he's onto a good thing here at the moment, he's still very young and he can afford to stay here another couple of seasons and develop his game (by which time hopefully we'll be a CL team). Any player that is lured by City's dirty money goes down in my estimation

It would be fucking terrible as it would set our squad back atleast 5 years

Hmmmmmmmm history? Love for the club? Ambition? Money? What really counts, well in my opinion it depends on the player. Its impossible for us to sit here and say he will go or he wont go. Could anyone honestly of thougth that Keane would have done what he done, especially after he statement after the CC final.

Now from what we know there are no firm bids in from anyone, I doubt he will go abroad as he is only 20. Rules that out. If he wants the dollar Man City have him. If he wants to play at the higest level then I would say Chealsa or Man U. Liverpool simply are in a crisis and Arsenal, god I hope not, plus hes from the UK. And remember Bale went 25games without a win, not saying it was all his fault but that currently he is in a good run of form, teams wont splash out £25million plus unless they see consistancy. I am sure some managers have an eye on him but they will look to see if he can produce consistantly.

From being Spurs fans we think we know a players personality so here is my thoughts on Bale. I honestly dont think he will leave this summer, even if we dont make the CL (which we will). The difference in Bale and the likes of Berbs, Keane, Carrick is the age. I think Carick was in his mid 20's when he left us and Keane and Berbs were older. I think Bale has found it hard to adjust to a new club and the riggers of playing at PL level, only in the last 3- 4 months has he looked the part. He must realise Spurs took a gamble on him, stuck with him through his injuries and have helped make him the player he is today. He needs to give us at least a season of having him playing week in week out.

Just my thoughts, but think to yourself, if you knew you could get double or even triple your wages doing the same job for a different employer what would you do?

Yes because we would strugle to find and attract players of similar quality.

If we dont make it this year (CL), well have to accept that we wont next year and that investing in the talent of tommorrow best fits with the timeline of our stadia too. Having £100m to spend, with someone as shrewd as harry, would give us some options but granted retention of all of them and 4th place would be the nirvana, im just not sure itll happen.

Doubt Fergie would want to upset Harry.

Them two are good mates. There would be no more 4 balls with Jamie and Darren on a Sunday afternoon.

I'm not concerned with the Premier League clubs. They don't have the financial muscle (bar Man Satay) that the decline of the Pound has afforded other European teams. I could easily see Barca making an offer for Bale soon and Milan for Gomes.

Barca are looking for a left sided player. A lot depends on whether we can finish Top 4 or not.

A lot depends on CL, which would probably allow us to keep the team together (willingly) for one more season.

Regardless, I think all of the big 4, bar Arsenal who we would flatly refuse, I suspect, have real financial problems that will make it hard for them to sign one of our players who is on a long contract in the next couple of seasons.

You have two examples here of 'big clubs' becoming small clubs in just a few years
Leeds
Newcastle
as both of these were challenging in the CL attracting big players and competiting for some years, then they disapeared.
If liverpool got relegated and was were leeds are in 2015 then few would sa they are one of the biggest clubs...they would still have a massive history and be a great club to play for in terms of rep but no longer have the pulling power of players in the championship/league 1

I am more afraid of man city. if they are interested in bale, i think it will be tough to hold them back. last 2 seasons, they are able to prise top players away from the top clubs like arsenal, man utd and real madrid without even uefa cup qualification. if they want, they will surely get. They are also smart with their targets, getting players that they think will weaken their closest rivals, which will include us.

Bale is only 20, I think he'll want to develop with us for a couple more years yet. By that time Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea will all be bankrupt and we'll be European Champions and top of the league so it wont matter anyway.

I would consider backing my season ticket if we sold any of our top players this time around,we don't need the money and we are so close to having one of the best squads we have had in years.

united can f*ck right off!

He's ours. Aint no way we're gonna sell him on. Fergie can go shopping somewhere else.

I have very few doubts that levy or redknapp want to sell for any amount, but if they do, i'm sure they can see his world-class potential and past the illusion of mega money offered at us.
