So when do you think they'll come calling?

I think it would be silly of us not to accept teams will make enquiries and even bids for our best players, thats what we do to other teams so why not accept it will happen to us? So its now just down to the club and how they go about keeping those players here.

As to the question "when will they come calling?" I think its been happening for some time now

That's just Fergie mind-games in the lead-up to Saturday's game IMO. If they were serious about buying Bale they know they'd have to offer a lot more than £20m.

Could well be mind games, typical Fergie. I'd like to think the way Spurs made the Carrick and Berbatov deals take so long to complete would put United off coming in for one of our players who we wouldn't want to sell.

Spurs need to let Bale know how important he is to our future and get him to sign an extension on an improved deal asap. If stories like this keep coming out in the paper, true or not, it may turn his head and once he's got one eye on joining someone like United it's going to be hard to hang on to him

This was my immediate thought. They play Sunderland next week at SoL, and wouldn't be at all surprised if they are linked with the young lad Meyler who's been doing very well for them lately. Its typical Fergie, the prize pr*ck.

Don't think Bale is the sort to be affected by it though. I think the foreign lads are more affected by it than the English lads. Knowing how much 'Arry loves talking to the media I'd expect some comment today about it to try and dampen the story before it has the chance to grow legs.

Not much to write about at the moment, with the SKY 4 all out of europe, so they are now looking at speculative stories to sell papers. Today, Bale to United. Yesterday, Lennon to Man City. Tomorrow, it will be Gomes to Arsenal.

I think all that Gareth needs to do is look how succesfull Berbatov's move to manure has been. He'll be banging on Harrys door to sign with us for 5 years.

Spurs ready to reward Gareth Bale with new deal
Tom Collomosse
23.04.10

Gareth Bale is set to be rewarded for his superb recent form with an improved contract at Tottenham as the club seek to secure one of their prize assets for the long term.

The Welshman has been sensational in the second half of the season, producing several man-of-the-match displays and scoring in Spurs' victories over Arsenal and Chelsea.

Tomorrow's opponents Manchester United are believed to be keen to bring Bale to Old Trafford next season as a long-term replacement for his fellow countryman Ryan Giggs.

Bale signed a new deal in August 2008 worth around £25,000 a week, which does not expire until the summer of 2012, but his performances in helping Spurs into fourth in the League can expect to see him double his wages.

Spurs have a record of rewarding quickly excellence on the field with better terms.

Winger Aaron Lennon, expected be on the bench at Old Trafford after four months out with a groin injury, signed a new five-year deal in March 2009 which brought him closer to Spurs' top earners, Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate and Jermain Defoe.

Defender Michael Dawson followed suit by putting pen to paper on a contract of the same length earlier in January this year.

Spurs' desire to ensure Bale remains at White Hart Lane for the long term marks a rapid turnaround in fortunes for the 20-year-old, who joined the club from Southampton in the summer of 2007 at the age of only 17.

Bale struggled with form and fitness during his first two-and-a-half years at the club and did not finish on the winning side for Spurs in the Premier League until their 5-0 victory over Burnley on 26 September last year.

He made only eight appearances before December and was a loan target for Middlesbrough and Newcastle but manager Harry Redknapp is desperate for him to stay.

“It would have scared me to death to have sold him,” said Redknapp, who nevertheless preferred Benoit Assou-Ekotto to Bale at left-back during his first year in charge. “I knew what he could do. The sky is the limit for him.”
