Can we finally put the myth to bed about Keane and Defoe not being able to play together?

Tonight is a prime example of the two "short, quick" guys being able to do the business and we looked a real threat whenever we went forward.

Keane's "drop in" role was also a master-stroke tonight

Views?

Keane is 5'10..thats not exactly short.

He scored a header today, and on many occasions has been gifted with headed oppurtunities, he just rarely takes them!

I have to hold my hands up and say I'd never could see the partnership working, but tonight I was proven wrong. Defoe has developed more than any of us could have imagined. His hold up play is impressive aligned with an added physical strength, which has taken him up another level. Lets hope it continues.

I always knew it could work to be honest

look at Barca last year full of shorties upfront Eto'o, Messi, Iniesta, Xavi only Henry has abit of height

footballs all about quick passing and intelligent movement not big hoofs upfield then chase after the ball

the side just looks so well balanced at present and long may it continue

as long as keane dosen't try anything out of his ability range and keeps linking jermain
it could work for a limited amout of time until keanes form predictably will drop
hopefully jermain keeps silencing the critics with or without keane

Have to admit Keafoe looked awesome tonight. Harry has us playing some outstanding football on the deck, which means we can get away with playing them together. I'm impressed, really am.

One swallow doesn't make a spring and all that...

But yeah, they were brilliant tonight. Keane was sensational... Will be overshadowed - and rightly so - by JD's treble, but it should be noted how brilliant Keane was.

I too doubted it could work, but I'm happily being proven wrong.
I agree with the posts above that football is about the passing and build up creating chances rather than just a hoof upfield hoping to catch defenders off guard.

Defoe & Keano up front v Spam on the weekend that's for sure!

I was advocating a Crouch / Keane partnership for tonights game as Defoe doesn't score away from home.

Good job I'm not manager. Defoe was awesome and looks so much stronger and more adept at holding the ball up.

Next up West Ham, let's keep this run going.

When Robinson was our most creative player, relying on the big boot upfield, Defoe and Keane were always going to find it a bit difficult, particularly as there was no-one to put the ball craftily ito their feet, but things have changed. Anyway, there have been instances when it has worked in the past, I recall Bolton away in the League Cup 2 or 3 years ago.

i dont think keane and defoe can sustain this kind of form for all 38 games. So i see pav and crouch being used in the second half of the season. I just hope pav and crouch dont lose more motivation while they sit through the first 18 or so games

It took them a long time, the stats really were not pretty, but they suddenly seem to be gaining an understanding. Crouch and Pav should be working their arses off to get a chance. Looking good.

Perhaps you should refrain from trying anything out of your ability range—like commenting on football, for instance.

It is working. I am still glad we have Crouch as an option, because we are not going to play this well all season, at some stage we are going to have to win ugly.

One other comment is that Hull's period of pressure in the first half when they brought it back to 2-1 came because Cudicini kept kicking it long, rather than throwing it out to the fullbacks a la Gomes. I hope one of the coaching staff has a word with him.
