Just had a gander at some O. Dembele highlights on YouTube. Looks a future ballon d'or winner to me. Will be a massive upgrade on what we have at the moment in terms of wide forwards. Hopefully Poch's track record with youth will help us get him.

The boy clearly has a good set of skills, I like what I've seen of him as well, and would like him here, but we have to remember he's pretty raw too. One thing that will need working on is his work off the ball, I've seen him over a couple of full 90's and his work off the ball is a bit lax to be honest. I watched the game against PSG this week and Rennes were pretty poor, but he didn't have a great game either, and I can barely remember him making a single tackle or even trying to. And he was played ARM against PSG and it clearly didn't really suit him, the previous game I saw him he played ACM and that suited him better.

In terms of what he offers he has potential to be a quick upgrade on players like Njie, Chadli and Son in terms of picking the ball up and running at defenders - and producing, but his potential at the moment is just that, and is probably no more the Lamela's was when he joined us having scored a shitload of goals as a wide forward for Roma in Serie A, or Pritchard's potential having been virtual player of the season in the championship last year. He will not be an instant upgrade on every AM we have from the get go. He's 18 and has got plenty of learning to do and will be doing it in a new tough league and country (should he join us).

I like him, think he has bags of potential, and he could turn out to be a real uber player but lets not get too carried away - the hype that goes with these kids now is ludicrous and very few actually live up to it, doesn't mean they are failures of they don't, just means sometimes the hype is over the top.

Yes we probably will have Nike in 17/18 and yes the Paxton will most likely be knocked down during the season, but 'Hertyid' doesn't know that any better than we already do.

When you've watched O Dembele for Rennes has he faced any teams that have 10 men behind the ball, and hope to score on the counter?

I met Freud at Wembley before the caring cup final when United beat us on penalties.
I was rather drunk and a bit wobbly and he was right behind me in the que. as I turned round and saw him I bellowed sshhooooottt. Then a few other fans noticed and started shouting ssshhhooooootttt. At the end even Steffan and who I presume were his kids started shouting ssshhhooooootttt. He looked so proud and had a beaming smile.
A wonderful memory

He was walking up Wembley way and getting mobbed by Spurs fans. He took it in great spirit and was stopping for pictures. What a guy!

I'm not really surprised if they are unconvinced with NJie. I know his season has been very disrupted and he hasn't played all that much but I never think you need long to know what a player is about and what he possesses and can/can't do. He looked like he had decent but not frightening pace, technically was no more than ok, and his reading of the game playing up top wasn't anything special. He did chase about and put in a shift, but he never really looked like scoring.

For someone who still cost a decent fee I haven't seen any 'raw ingredients' to be excited about going forward in the next couple of years. To be honest what we've seen so far I'd expect we'd get from a youth team striker... Raw, keen, chases about a bit up top, has a few fleeting moments etc etc.

Even with limited playing time I think he needs to show much more, and I hope he does. I'd also say that if he has been singled out then it's a bit harsh on him, given Son has been equally underwhelming at this point.

I could have told you all that from how mediocre he is in FIFA. :sneaky:

Presumably we saw something in him in the first place? If so, he's not had enough time

We're gonna have a first 11 of Dembeles, it'll confuse the fuck out of everyone, except us!! ;):D

Wenger: "stay on Dembele!"

Wiltshite: "the one with two S's or one S boss"

Wenger: "No no the one with the O"

Wiltshite: "They've both got Os boss"

Wenger: "No you wazzock the one with the O at the beginning"

Wiltshite: "The beginning?! We're already 60 mins in?"

Crowd roars

Wenger: "You shitwittle - I meant the one that just scored!"

Not exactly. I watched him play back in Feb when his team weren't great but did have more of the ball then found themselves a goal down with 15 minutes to go, and the opponent were parking, if I remember rightly he picked up the ball, dropped a shoulder went past a man and fired in the equaliser from the edge of the box, and then assisted for the winner.

I think it would take him about the same amount of time as Alli to force his way into the team. He's got way more potential than Lamela. He can use both feet, beat a man with pace, go inside or outside. He'll be a 20 goal a season player wherever he goes. It would be a massive coup if we could get him, even if it was only for 3 years before the inevitable move to one of the Spanish giants. I see it being a straight fight between us and Dortmund as I don't think he'd want to go somewhere he's gonna struggle to get game time.

The way people talk about him, he sounds like he could be another Alli as much as he could be another Taraabt, but he wouldn't be the first.

I can never decide though - would a player like Taraabt have flourished if a manager like poch had gotten hold of him when he was a youngster, could he have tamed the undoubted skill into something that wasn't a selfish liability?

Guess each player has to be judged on their merits, but I do have confidence in our staff to see the wheat from the chaff

Im sure I saw somewhere he said he prefers the German league to the premier league but doesnt have a preference of Bayern or Dortmund. Could easily be the Dortmund replacement for Aubameyang by all accounts

From what I've read it seems his mother will decide where he goes, and that will be the place that's best for his development. Hugo could be a big help in persuading her Tottenham is the right place.

I actually was one of the first to flag him up in the summer transfer thread, after watching him earlier in the season, I think he's got huge potential for sure, ability, technique, physique, and I think he has the character to succeed, I just think it's very optimistic to expect an 18yo to come into a top EPL team and become the best player they have in a year. It very rarely happens.

And according the the player himself (O Dembele that is), he'd rather go to Germany than England. Apparently he has a €5m Euro buyout, which the club are trying to circumnavigate, maybe that's why Spurs feel they are in with a shout, because they'll offer Rennes more than Dortmund (who according to Rafa Honigstein are looking to pay about 15m).

As i said, 'Hertyid' doesnt know any better than we do. Front of the queue for O.Dembele? Just signed for Dortmund, fair to say we didnt even have any strong links with the player from the time this info was passed to him signing for Dortmund. Bit weird seeing as we were front of the queue.

I know i got many a 'funny' rating for my narky post above, but in essence what i said is true.
