This is one of the best sporting days in South Korea's history, still want to make him do some shitty military service after this? Fuck off.

Do it ! You’ll be very happy together ...

And great job Sonny with that goal today to ko Germany. 2 goals , maybe they’ll exempt him . So get that letter off now.

The conflict between North and South Korea has diminished, and Son hammered the final nail in the German world cup coffin. There is no case now for him to undertake military service; and I'm sticking to that!

the compulsory military service in SK is not only due to threat from NK, but also that the SK Government has to maintain a such "absolutely fair" system to cover up other problems in their country, e.g. corruption, gender discrimination
btw don't forget its Trump and Kim, probably the most unpredictable leaders in the world...

I did have my tongue firmly in my cheek when writing the above.

They won a game of football? Somehow think the defence of their country and way of life might be more important to them.

If that is the case why are Olympic medalists exempt? And why is it compulsory for men while women can do it voluntarily? There is no war going on, there is no reason why he should leave a good career to do that shit.

Did the Korean team know Sweden were winning when they scored?

Because it is an outstanding achievement and is fair as other sports men an women can also get medals and exemptions.
Winning one game of football is not. Do you think a footballer deserves a knighthood for winning one game for england at the world cup?
North and south korea are still officially at war.

I don't think so. I saw a quote from the SK keeper that they thought they had qualified immediately after the match, and only then learned that Sweden beat Mexico.

So South Korea beating Germany who were world champions is not an outstanding achievement? The fact that Son came to Germany when he was 16 and now is a top premiership footballer is an outstanding achievement. You say that the defence of the country is more important than football isn't it more important than an Olympic medal?

It depends maybe that footballer scores the only goal in the world cup. Personally I would do away with the honours system altogether.

There is no fighting going on or anything else to justify doing military service for two years.

Maybe you'd feel different if there were 400,000 soldiers camped at our border ready to invade at a moments notice.

There is no immediate threat of any invasion, life is going on as normal in South Korea.
