Finally got my WiFi working (on holiday in Cyprus).

Get online to see this happen!!!

I am absolutely DELIGHTED with the signing of Son. He is such a good player and I've watched him a few times and always thought he was bloody good. He has attributes that will really help us and inject us with pace and has a direct technique that will scare alot of defenders. Both footed so can play left right and center of attack and midfield. Of course he may have downsides to his game but with a hard trainer like Poch I have no doubt he will become even better every year until he becomes a huge player for us come 2018 when he will be playing in our new stadium :) exciting times indeed.

As much as it's been an up and down transfer period this year this definitely shows why we have taken long and hard to make the right deals. If Son had signed for let's say arsenal or utd I would of actually been not surprised because he is that good.

Huge credit to Levy and Poch for this.

Now very importantly let's get our no9 in and a DM and I tell u what..... We are gonna (with time and patience) going to be a very very solid team.

I wrote a long post about Son earlier in this thread, which many found informative, but I really need to reiterate to everyone again to temper expectations in the near term. I'm already seeing people talking about him going straight into the squad and expecting him to play immediately.

First of all, he is going to need some time to adapt. This is a big move for him and it'll take time to get used to his new surroundings and settle into a different country. Second of all, he has been called up by the South Korean National Team for AFC World Cup Qualifiers on September 3rd and September 8th. He has to fly out early next week to Seoul to join up with them for the game on Thursday. Then he'll fly with the team to Lebanon for their second game. He might not even train with Spurs until a few days before the Sunderland game. Expecting him to come in for that game is pretty unrealistic. This isn't a Pedro situation, where he is close to and has played with players in the squad and already knows the manager. There is a learning curve here, and you might not see him until our first Europa match. This is all part of the issue with buying very late in the window, especially someone from abroad. Lloris wasn't a regular until October of 2012. Lamela was always playing catch-up, as he too had to leave for national team duty right after he was signed (though there was more of a buffer that year between the end of the window and the international break). Pochettino also eased in Fazio last season, who featured primarily in Europa matches before getting a chance in the league. Yes, this is a big money purchase, but we shouldn't assume it's a mortal lock that he'll be thrown in at the deep end without getting used to his environment a bit.
Although you do obviously make some very valid points, I also think it will depend on how he is in training. Poch is all about conditioning and performances in training. If you can't do it during the week you won't get the chance to do so at the weekend. If he looks good and is fit, he'll play imo.

Watching that training video, he's much bigger than I thought. Was standing next to Wimmer (understandable) and didn't look like a kid

From what I've seen he appears to be right footed, but extremely capable with both.
Only thing that makes me think right is that his left footed goals appear to be curlers or placed shots but his right footed goals have curlers and well struck laces shots.

Not seen a player so two footed for Spurs since Ginola (So good with both feet you couldn't tell which) or Leonhardsen (so average with both you couldn't tell which...)

Carrick is very two footed. Sheringham was too. Both could shoot, hit 40 yard passes, cross etc, with their "weaker" foot very comfortably.

Anyone aware of his language situation? I can't seem to find an interview with him in English. He seems to have German down though, so Wimmer should be his man. The Belgians, Worm and Eriksen should be able to help him get the language barrier down as well. Or is he just pulling a Poch in the interview and understands English perfectly?

Shut up mate! your positivity isnt welcome around these parts! #LevyOut :playful:

On a serious note while i like many wished we could have signed these types of players sooner we need to realise we cant go in in stupid offers and force the issues when we want & we do have to bide some time.
Typically in a normal season we would only be 2 games in before a window shuts.

Funny how few people on SC seem to read the OS which says he speaks good English

I read that he is the face of LG in South Korea and it was because of him, LG sponsor Bayer Leverkusen.

Maybe LG will buy the naming rights of the new stadium? Obviously, our fans won't be happy with the slightly red Logo.

It is also worth mentioning that Lloris wasnt played until October due to some stupid obligation to big Brad! Even though he himself would have told you Lloris is a far better keeper.

I personally think Son will hit the ground running for us. If we can get a decent DM & someone like Berahino id be quite pleased with our overall squad now.

He was at training this morning.

Great news and I stand corrected. I didn't think he'd train today since he just signed, but shows his desire to just get out and get involved. Will still be interested to see how much time he gets training in the runup to Sunderland.

How many "nice one Son" quips have there been? not really important, there's mine. Magnificent.

Forgot about this player during my sabbatical. He was a tidy player a couple of years back. If he's improved since then, then nice. Also helps that he come from ze German league. Wont be as big a learning curve as it otherwise might be but no guarantees either way.

Has this placated the masses?

In a way, this legitimizes Son. Every player needs a poster who just doesn't like him. Even Bale had people who thought has was gash, until he hit that run of form that made him one of the best in the world and then they just kind of stopped posting* :)

But you're welcome to feelings of woe or negativity. I remember Blake Griffin was this way about one player (and I apologize as I can't remember his name) but he was 100% correct. Conversely, I was pretty negative about Crouch, and he turned out to be a great fit for us and scored a goal that got us to the CL. So be wary of having to admit you were wrong for years if this kid turns out to be really good :) You don't want to get invited into my select group of "Posters Who Are So Bad at Scouting That They Could Actually Scout for THFC" :( Although since I am the only member, I could use a treasurer

But I do hope that you will give him a chance now that we have him. It has to be legit, because any foreign player needs six months on average to adjust. So I hope you will put aside your worries and cheer him on....and even hope that you are wrong. If you do, then you earn the right to yell "I told you so" if it doesn't work out and that is a pretty cool payout. And if he does work out, you get the pay-out of a player that made us better.

*not saying he is Bale

Yeah, Bale is not as strong on his weaker foot.

I briefly asked some English-speaking Leverkusen fans on Twitter about him, and the views of Leverkusen fans, and I pointed out that some of their fans were almost happy about this.

One response was basically that those fans were twats, and he thinks that anyone who believes the team will be better off without Son is crazy.

That's a good sign. Them being bitter

That quip's been going through my head all day. Can't wait till he scores for us then it'll be "get in there my Son!".

Hopefully we'll get the dm + cf we still really need before the deadline.
