Apologies for not finding this in the prior 55 pages but wasn't there supposed to be an issue with him not having completed national service yet ? If someone could answer I'd be most grateful.

Lamela freed to return and three pacey players supposedly set to be added to the attack... Never in a million nights would I have dreamed such a wonderful outcome this summer.

There is but there are loopholes and exemptions rewarded for good performances in various footballing competitions with the NT.

I presume if we're signing him we have been given guarantees it won't be a problem

Actually saw this talked about on Reddit earlier today. The general consensus from a few Koreans was that because of his profession he should be able to delay it until he is into his early 30s.

If he wins a medal in the olympics or wins the Asian Cup he wouldn't need to do military service at all.

Adding to others posts, South Korean military service doesn't need to be done until age 28 (he's now 22) and at least one South Korean has extended that by getting residence in Monaco for 10 years (ie until age 38) whilst others have been allowed off it by doing great things at Olympics/WC etc - so I'm sure Spurs are working on such schemes with the player and his representatives

He's 23. He has 5 years. So 2020 is when it'l be a huge issue. This could have been avoided if Bayer let him play in the Asian Games last September since they won, but they didnt release him. If he wins a medal next year at the Olympics, he's exempt. He has another opportunity with the 2018 Asian Games, but I doubt we'd release him for that. There might be something for the WC in Russia. Then he has another opportunity to medal in Tokyo 2020.

Agreed but there are precedents for how South Korean players have got round the rules - and I'm sure DL will have got people looking at that weeks ago
