Seen him in person twice this year, and to be perfectly honest he's been anonymous both times, as said in the previous page, Bellarabi is a much more accomplished player, Son just shines on occasional moments

Has he said if he is staying at Hamburg?

Not that I'm aware of, I think they've put the money on the table so to speak for him to join permanently, but I don't think he's made up his mind. Maybe waiting to hear where he'll stand with us at the end of the year/ where HSV finish

Any news on what Bellarabi might decide to do with his contract running out?

Not sure to be honest, I haven't heard him specifically linked with any big clubs and as he's now managing to get called up for Germany and Leverkusen are doing well, I don't imagine he's in a rush to go anywhere fast. Contract still has a couple of years on it, so we'll have to see what happens with him

I think Son's production and contributive presence has definitely decreased since Calhanoglu has arrived and Bellarabi has taken off. He's just not that vital anymore to their buildup.

That having been said, if we wanted a left-footed LWF I'd prefer Ayew due to his experience with Bielsa philosophy, and I think he's also more versatile.

For some reason I thought his contract was up this year. No idea why I thought that.

Perhaps, but was he ever really involved in the build up at all? He's normally only involved in the final passages of play in general imo, but even that might have decreased. I can't comment on Ayew though, don't watch French football!

If Son is not as important to his current team as before then BL are more likely to be interested in a sale. And that would be good for Spurs. The saying 'Form is Temporary, Class is Permanent' might apply here. Someone like Mitchell might be the best judge here in assessing this talent - I wouldn't trust what Baldini would have to say! In any case, from what I've seen, this is a player with great potential that would certainly be a better fit than a player like Lambert.

Doesn't really apply as this kid is a wide forward rather than a striker, but I agree with you on his potential and that I wouldn't put it beyond reason for Leverkusen to sell. However, I think we could do better for cheaper this term. I'd take either Ayew or Konoplyanka this January who would be cheaper, and better defensively. Could probably count on one hand the amount of times I've seen Son complete a successful tackle that wasn't a foul. Part of what keeps that number low is the fact he just doesn't help out much.

Interesting comment on Son's ability to tackle. But I think Son can play all the forward positions effectively - and perhaps a coach like Pochettino would help develop his all-round game. Don't know much about Ayew but Konoplyanka looks a decent player, although there have been rumours that his attitude could be better.

Son can, but I'm not sure about in the Prem. Forwards who aren't big have to have shearing pace, and that's just not something he has despite being pretty quick.

I've also heard this about Kono, but you have to wonder if at this point in his career if he's frustrated with the fact he's been denied exit from his club despite so much interest from big clubs. His club's owner has apparently turned down some monstrous offers from Dinamo Kiev for him, and of course there was the very close chance for him to go to Liverpool a year ago. Instead he's been forced to stay there and continue dragging his team along while also knowing he won't win anything due to the strength of Shakhtar and Kiev.

I don't know for sure, but I do think that context has to be considered. These are professional footballers, some of the most ambitious people on the planet to be as skilled in their profession as they are. They don't like to reach plateaus, as they're directly contradictory to the psyches they've developed their entire lives. So I think there's a strong possibility he would relish the chance to finally get his big move, and may kick it up a notch for his chance.

All speculation of course.

Son is actually quite tall - 183 cm. The same height as our golden boy Harry Kane.

Good point that you make on Konoplyanka's attitude. I imagine that any club interested in him would delve into this matter to really understand what makes the player tick. I believe that one reason that Spurs are doing so well now is a sense of 'team' in those players that have done do well lately. Incoming players would need to fit in easily and not disrupt all the positive vibes that surround the group right now.

Completely agree in that second paragraph. Wholeheartedly. It's good we've finally weeded out the problems, don't need anything causing a revert.

Son is decently tall, but he's very thin and does not use his height. In fact, if anything, it's a hindrance to him as it prevents him from being as agile on the wing, and he doesn't use his taller frame to put on muscle and beat defenders in the air.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't think he's a bad shout at all and I think you put forward good reasons for us selecting him, I think just given our own circumstances and of those players available from elsewhere, I'd just rather we choose them. But on a flat basis of similar fees and contract situations, I concede that it'd be a tough question.

Darren Lewis thinks Spurs will be in on Son on deadline day.

Any chance or just journalist bullshit
