Thats bad.... From what I know, it comes down how bad the membrane is - if there's a tear or not. I know its not uncommon for pro athletes - its a needle pinching like pain at the heel. Rest is important - condition can reoccur. Some pros play through with severe pain. I guess Surgery is last option for pros, as I have heard it really delays recovery period.

If this report is true, I pray this is just a mildest form of the injury & not recurring one.

If our medical team think rest is all he needs then I'd start to worry. Orthotics and custom made to measure (as I'd assume they already are) boots are what should be advised. I see and treat this dozens of times a week. Its very common and very easily treated. Surgery is only required in a very extreme case and wouldn't be recommended for an athlete.

He's already been out for a month, should we worry?

I think what we're seeing is maybe not a potential serious injury being masked by the continued non-appearance of Son, but rather it could be an insight into how our management team handles injuries now - which very well may be quite different from managers in the past.
Look at Eriksen's injury at the start of the season, then Bentaleb's, then Mason's then Dembele, and Son, all had what we thought at the time were innocuous injuries that should only have kept them out of the team for a week or 2 but they were out for much longer. And I think its possibly due to our medical staff ensuring they come back 100% ready and fit rather than 90% fit, knowing the stress and pressures that are placed on them by Poch's intense training and style of play.

I would hope not. Surgery and a long term absence would only be required if the problem wasn't actually PF but a heel spur (ironic eh). They are probably just being overly careful. Effectively the problem may lie in the make up of Sons foot and ensuring the plantar fascia isn't stretched beyond its limits, resulting in micro tears of the soft tissue which causes the inflammation and therefore the pain. This is generally pretty easily solved with orthotics (insoles) which would be created and a prescription made specifically to the spec the podiatrist would give. 'normal' patients are generally advised to wear these in gradually as too much correction may cause problems elsewhere in knees/hips etc. The fact they would be used in elite sports probably means the 'wearing in' process is being implemented slower. Sorry for the boring and tedious post but I'd hope that's the case. PF shouldn't be anything long term if the correct treatment is used. Lots of doctors etc advocate steroid injections but this doesn't correct the root cause and is often a temporary measure.

Let's hope he's back soon!

Poch never gave a specific time frame on any of the rest of them,,,but with Son, before the Liverpool game, he did.

He said maximum three weeks. So its no surprise he's not in the training pics this week. So going by that Poch update, we should be looking out for next weeks training pictures.

Can you email the club please, you seem to know what you are talking about!

When the club don't put a timescale down on the official site it's usually bad news. I wouldn't be surprised not to see him this side of Christmas.

Jimmy's time-tested formula
Take the estimate they first thought of.
Double it.
There you have it: plus or minus a fortnight..
Usually works.
