Heung-Min Son has been named Club captain.

Sonny, 31, takes over the captain's armband from Hugo Lloris, who first captained the team in 2014/15 and was named skipper for the start of 2015/16 - Sonny's first season at Spurs.

James Maddison and Cristian Romero have been appointed vice-captains.

Leader what! he is a fanny, Mackay, Mabbut were leaders. I am so disappointed but the boss knows best. To me just shows a captain is now a corperate image and nothing to do with out on the pitch. Also very difficult to drop a captain. But as I say the Boss knows best

I think you describing him as a fanny says an awful lot more about your qualities as a leader than it does Son's.

Mackay and Mabbut were leaders in their time, in their way, in a time long since past. And it's not about what happens on the pitch for 90m minutes. it's all day everyday, in the dressing room, on travels, setting the examples for teamates ...

If it makes you happier, Romero is vice captain and I am sure you consider him less of a fanny...

Weird one. Hopefully it's a masterstroke that helps Son find something that doesn't appear in his locker right now. He's more the light hearted showman whovis good for morale than an in-the-trenches leader, but we'll see.

Good decision. Nice to see Romero involved too.

I think also a very interesting move.
Romero has shown limited/poor leadership so far I'd have to say and this is a good opportunity for him to take a huge step up.

All his best qualities have been in hero-mode or classy-on-ball situations, noone could accuse him of marshaling the Spurs defence or forging a firm partnership etc. While this speaks more to our overall team than to him, he's also been rash or seemingly unfussed too many times, and has been insulated from criticism for a noticeable prolonged dip in form because of still being comfortably our best defender. Probably we could have been a bit worried last summer about a really big club coming sniffing after him this summer, and as this season drew to a close noone was voicing that concern at all (despite us failing to make Europe), which certainly says something.

Maddison likewise a v interesting choice as a new face, particularly interesting that he's preferred to Dier.

Interesting choice and highlights an issue we have had in the squad in for years which is apart from how poor some of the signings have been, a distinct lack of leaders on the pitch to go with it. Bentancur would have been a strong candidate had he not been injured in my view.

Son is South Korea captain so I guess the responsibility is not new to him. My only concern is that it does not weigh too heavily as we all know he can be streaky and swing from doing the sublime one minute to not being able to trap a simple ball the next. He also sometimes has the tendency to hide in games or pull out/not fully commit to duels or the press which is not a good look for the person wearing the armband. Let's hope it works out and it doesn't end up like the Kaboul appointment at the start of Poch's era.

In terms of the vices, Dier's omission speaks volumes so he is probably on his way out or will have a highly diminished position at the club which sounds about right. As we round off the transfer window, I hope we pick up not just quality players but also good characters and leaders that can come in and set decent standards for the group across all elements of the game.

Most senior player, inspirational, and a consistently positive personality in the squad. Logical choice.

This one seems easy to decipher. Son is friends with everyone, with every friend group. He is one of the most senior players, captain for his country and he plays up front. Madder plays in midfield and romero in defense so we have a captain in each section.

You seem like a knob and would potentially be compatible with said fanny!

Pleased for the boy.
Other than Kane he's been top dog for Spurs
and popular throughout the known Universe.
Bit emotional at times
but not a fault for a Captain.
has the respect and love of the squad
and it may inspire him to regain his former glory
with Madds instead of Kane
supplying the bullets.

All the best Sonny
