It's getting to the point where you're better off giving each team a challenge per game that they can use to get the referee to view video replays to amend a decision, similar to tennis. That way you cut down on the inconsistencies of it as you take away the seemingly randomness of what gets looked at and put it in the team's hands rather than some wanker in a box room in front of a TV screen.

I don't know why people are protesting VAR itself, the alternative is giving the likes of Peter Banks full autonomy
People still have an issue with the way it stops them from celebrating ‘properly’
Which is quite silly really.

Especially considering how many times we’ve been on the receiving end of a shocking decision over the years.

honestly, Fleck may not be a good enough athlete to avoid trampling Lo Celso. My first reaction was it was intentional but after watching the replays he may just be a shitty footballer.

That would then give players free reign to get away with little things if they knew another team had used up their "allowance".

It's really not the solution - it would work fine as it is, if they didn't have idiots running it

Not sure that "not stamping on someone's face" is something they teach them at La Masia, tbh...

I'll repeat this again since we're over the weekend now - surely he can't be left to just get away with this? Where are the formal complaints from the club? Where is the Refs Association statement? Where is the statement from Bankes justifying not making a decision over a violent assault?

The club cannot simply let this go. It is beyond belief.

Peter Bankes after two horror decisions from the VAR room gets a break from the VAR job ... to officiate Arsenal - WBA.

There is literally no accountability.

Another fucking disgraceful decision. Tierney just literally fiddled with the line until it was “offside”.

Another subjective, dodgy, decision to add to the list. If that was United we’d have another enquiry for a week.

If both players are level, then he’s onside.

I would love to see the table for clubs with the most goals ruled out by VAR.

3 games in a row now we’ve had goals rules out ??‍♀️

I think if VAR is here to stay then we need to revisit the offside rule, this business of millimeters making a decision seems mental to me.

They need to work out how to encourage brighter people to go into refereeing, the lack of critical thinking in decisions is startling.

I know law suits in sports are frowned upon but I believe the refs are using technology that isn't calibrated to make the level of decisions they are making and they don't have the technical expertise. There are massive financial consequences to these decisions. It needs to be done.

I’ve said before that the technology isn’t accurate enough to rule that offside with certainty. At 50 frames per second the players could easily move 20cm between frames. Any offside decision of less than 20cm is significantly prone to error if the player appears onside in the previous frame.

This is a textbook bad decision

Also frames can be rendered deceptively. In fast moving scenes, pixels are often added to forthcoming frames to give more fluid and smoother sense of motion, making a foot appear in a place it never was.

Also the split second when the ball is played is absolutely crucial but i've never seen a VAR spend *any* time making sure they get the exact frame the ball leaves the boot.

So much effort was taken when goal line technology was introduced to make sure it was verifiably accurate and tested exhaustively. Our offline system looks like it's a free app off the internet.
