Ethan, Steven - do you honestly think that, were the boot on the other foot, the Woolwich would've considered the same? Not at all.

Why would a ground share with them have given us any advantage anyway? I don't see the relevance at all - sharing a ground means sharing gate receipts and an increased volume of games in any shared stadium means you have to pay twice for the stewards, twice for the staff surrounding, twice for the vendors, twice as much hassle for the old bill and a move from the area where our most loyal fanbase is.

It would've been a f*cking disaster if we'd decided to ground share with them and, as pointed out earlier on, when was this even on the cards as more than just a suggested possibility?

We've got a board that's holding us on a steady path money-wise, yet are frugal enough to not let us become the next Leeds. We could easily have shelled out on a new stadium a couple of years ago, seeking creditors and loans to cover it, much as the Woolwich did, but we would never have been able to pay them back - we needed to expand as a club first and, now the fans can smell we have success lurking around under the pitch somewhere, we're virtually filling our ground for every match - a boast only about 4 other teams can sensibly make.

Let's not start looking to the past when we have such a rosey future, eh?

Well said Steven. I think the mindset of our fans may have to change if we are to have any sustainability, and progress. Under the current financial climate perhaps this may be revisited.
and "Current financial climate"...

what, you mean us being in a better position financially than pretty much every other club in the league, bar one or two? Having a sponsor that is paying us so much cash that one of their fat-cats got fired over it? Being solidly in the black with a board that are so money-savvy we've taken the opportunity that Alan Sugars money gave us and turned it into profit year in, year out?

that current financial climate?

Well said Steven.quote]

Yep SQ & EE :) - In my lifetime there's been a couple of times at least when a ground share has been strongly mooted and probably feasible with AFC - I certainly supported the idea if we could have joined in with them at Cashburden - and I think there was another chance earlier -

I think we'd be in a far stonger position had we ground shared - (on an equal not tenant footing)

Rocksuperstar, many significant clubs around the world share a ground....in Italy Spain etc. How is it that 'using' Wembley was once put up as a viable /sensible way to get economic use out of major infrastructure but a joint ground ownership with Arsenal would not? Apart from sharing the capital outlay way back then we would have kept 'our' gate and marketing monies. Why would it be any other way? Even back then our support was widening. I'm from Hackney, followed Spurs since 1961. Many north london boroughs have a mixture of support and always have had. Playing somewhere up Seven sisters road would have been less of a drag than out Wembley way.
My main point is that blind loyalty to WHL cost us then and costs us now. No amount of self delusion about being 'third' on this table can hide the reality that past decisions about ground have left a very poor 9th in terms of average attendence in the EPL.

liverpool 10th how can they be looking at a 70k all singing and dancing stadium if they can fill the current one ?

I was discussing this with my other half last night, they actually do fill their stadium most weeks so the results are a little confusing. Friends of ours are members and struggle to get tickets, even to the lesser games - Wigan/Bolton etc. In fact, I've been trying all season to get two tickets to take my Liverpool supporting cousin to a game, to no avail.

But well done anyway to our fans, always good to see a full stadium. Just shows that we'll fill a new satdium no problem!

Congratulations go to Arsenal. It's a slight consolation for another trophy-less season.

There's nothing worst then a "half" empty stadium or better than a stadium packed with vocal support.

Spurs would need to hire top class architects to design a stadium that holds the athmosphere, holds circa 50K but is easily expandable to 60K in the future if the support is there.

Put plenty of noise dampening materials in the away section, and perhaps leave the roof off completely -- at least retractable on rainy scum days.

Chelsea's figures are a warning. Can't fill the stadium even when competing for the title and the Champions league. Give ar5sena1 another season or two of failure and their capacity figures will drop.

The economics of paying excessively for a 60K stadium over a 50K stadium would make interesting reading. I would prefer to pay an extra £5 to be with loyal vocal fans over sitting with shy tourists.

But you'd have twice the revenue to cover those costs. In practice, SPurs would pick up SPurs game revenue and associated costs and Ar$e would take theirs. If we could fill 60,000 (and I suggest we'd get close, if not all the way) then the extra income leaves us much healthier financially and able to compete on transfers, squad build etc

I'd love it if only the bottom 2 in the league got relegated along with the team bottom in this table. Serve shit fans and crap clubs right.

You idiot, the bottom four teams are in areas where money isn't as free flowing. Not everyone can afford to support their team in person on a Saturday. It doesn't make them shit fans, it just means they understand the importance of putting food on their kids tables above watching a bunch of guys run around a field for 1.5 hours.

Wonder what the total gate receipts for the season table would look like?
Bet we are still near the top even though we are only midway in capacity.

Hi WS - we'll see when the various clubs accounts come out -
overall I think we'll struggle to hold onto 11th in D&T's European/world income list - as we haven't massively benefited from this year's TV bonanza due to our 11th place and relatively sparse Sky coverage

We should hold on to 5th in England as Toon's lack of Euro football and 12th place holds them back
