Just had another thought.

It's the ACN this January, isn't it?

If so, then our rivals will lose a player or two....

Man Utd - none (iirc)
Spurs - Adebayor???
Arsenal - Song, Gervinho.
Chelsea - Mikel, Drogba, Kalou.
Liverpool - none?
Newcastle - Tiote, Ben Arfa?

and its starts Jan 21st....the day we play City, although they will only be with out Yaya Toure, and Barry and De Jong can sit in the 'two' in front of the back four.

Newcastle we play on the eleventh of February, Ba and Tiote will probably still be away representing strong nations with Senegal and Ivory Coast respectively.

We're the best in the world

I'm not biased at all

I'm with Hotty on this one

I've been watching Spurs since the 1950s and this is without doubt the best team I've seen since the heady, halcyon days of the 1960s (I say team, although we now have a squad and football is a very different game in so many ways).

Ditto (almost). My debut season as a little Yiddo was in our :eek:mg: relegation season, so I grew up watching Hoddle, the signings of Villa and Ossie, Steve Perryman, etc., etc. (I absolutely loved Mickey Hazzard), and into the mid 80's.
I have been saying for quite a while, now, that the squad we were building has the potential to be the best since the Double side (which I never saw ).

I think key is our run up to Christmas... we technically (and with no disrespect meant to the teams in question) have an easy run up to the festive period (as easy as it gets in the Prem, which Villa aside is usually not at all).

Can we realistically win all of those games?? Well yes we could... for the first time in a long time I have felt confident that we could actually maintain this run of at least being unbeaten all the way until Chelsea at least.

But football is a cruel mistress and there will be teams up to then that will be desperate to take points off of us.

But if we do somehow manage to maintain this run until then, then we could really be in the thick of it in terms of being right at the top.

City lost last night to Napoli, do not underestimate the seeds of doubt that can be sown from being invincible to suddenly losing. A lot will depend on how they react to that loss.

But as the mantra goes, its one game at a time, as us losing or drawing a few games between now and Christmas could easily reverse the wave of optimism hitting this forum!!

So, enjoy it whilst it lasts, as with everything, it's never forever.

Rule of thumb is usually that if your opponents are talking about you, especially in derogatory terms then you're a threat...

Trust me, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, they all know that they're in a real scrap for positions 3 & 4 and that we aren't going to drop off as easily as in previous years.

City and UTD are glancing over their shoulders as any respectful team at the top does, but until they see Spurs or anyone else start to seriously close the gap they're won't fear us just yet.

We are capable of 3rd, might "fluke" 2nd.

There are bound to be matches when we have an off day and things don't gel but right now the boys are on a high and any discontent with being a Spurs player seems to have melted away. The smell of pending and possible success is sweet and that kind of feeling affords true team spirit and everyone pulling together to be the best they can be.

We are bound to have disappointing performances sooner or later and drop points but so are the other teams up at the top when the pressure is on and I think, at our best, we can beat any of them. The belief is there now.

We don't just have eleven excellent players, we also have a solid, talented bench and injured players who can step in and step up once they are fit again so we've got all the angles covered.

What's more, we've got this far without billionaire (trillionaire?) owners dishing out huge transfer fees and wages which we can't afford to pay.

Levy, Harry and his coaching staff, the Board and the players all deserve a pat on the back and I'm confident we'll be back in the CL next season.

For those SCers still proclaiming doom and clutching half empty glasses in their sweaty hands, enjoy what's happening right now and forget about fear of failure. I'm loving every minute of it and know that we have a strong enough squad, both physically and mentally, to move on and up again when we have a bad game.

Dare to dream! Carpe diem!

Well said sir! I've been following the Spurs since about 1990 and this is by far the best team\squad I've ever seen us have. I'm loving watching us and having that buzz around us. It's exciting times, it's good that people talk about our players moving to so called bigger clubs as it means were doing so well.

I can't wait for every next game to come along, they all seem like cup finals.

Interesting stat! I wonder what the value of team is if we were to sell? Modders is 40m on his own.

Sooner or later we will enter a bad run, just like Arsenal, Chelsea and United has/have had. The lenght and depth of that bad run will decide what position we'll end up in. We can be sure that the other top teams will strengthen their teams in january, especially if a top 4-position is jeopardized. Spurs and Newcastle will probably have trouble doing that. Our squad is still good enough to challenge the big clubs, but not Newcastles IMO.

I was thinking about who would get in our current eleven from the teams around us and taking form and injuries partly into consideration. I say partly because Rooney is a little off form at the moment and he would get in our first eleven, obviously, whereas Torres's lack of form has more a chronic feel to it

Anyway just for fun and this is highly subjective but I'll try and be objective  (not thinking of formations necessarily either)

City (6)...Aguero, Silva, Yaya, Balotelli, Kompany, Hart

United (3)...Rooney, Nani, Vidic

Arsenal...(3)RVP, Vermaelen, Wilshere

Chelsea...(3)Cezh, Cole, Mata

Liverpool...(2) Suarez and Reina

If I could mould my own Spurs team out of that I would go with:

Hart

Walker
Kompany
King
Cole

Yaya
Modric

Suarez
Rooney
Silva

RVP

Subs...Bale, VDV, Aguero, Parker, Reina, Nani, Vidic

To be fair to the Goons, you would have Scezny over Friedel anyday of the week. Walcott/Lennon is a coin toss.

We're a better side than Liverpool. Arsenal and us are really close. Notice that a lot of their opinions had been formed prior to the last two seasons. We've taken steps forward, they've all taken steps back bar Man Citeh. Liverpool signing players like Bellamy and Downing for example, they're two players we were after when we were looking at getting in the Europa League.

We're a very decent side nowadays, I'm glad they underestimate us. Every time they say "It's Spurs they'll fall to bits soon" I find it amusing because this is a completely different squad to the one that used to bottle it. Players like VDV and Ade have a very important mentality regarding winning and it shows throughout the squad.

You would but that doesn't mean I'll include him

Lennon on his day over Theo for me thanks, plus I can't stand him.

3rd is ours to lose, but I don't think we're as good as we think we are and in Feb/march, we will drop quite a few points.

I think we'll finish 4th, despite having the 3rd best team

IMO we have the third best squad in the Premiership. City are obviously better and maybe United. But our Squad depth means we are better than Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. We should finish third this season but should and will are two different things. Miss out on top four and it will be poor result with the strength of the squad.

We under-performed last season, and that cost us 4th. Not to take anything away from the teams that finished above us, as they were simply more consistent, but the poor form of our strikers left many fans with the impression that we had been punching above our weight when we finished 4th.

For that reason I think many fans of other teams find it difficult to understand how we can look so much better this year with the addition of just two players, and therefore just assume we are on a bit of a lucky run.

Having said that, I feel that the general consensus is starting to change, and that we're playing so well right now it's just impossible to ignore (unless you're a Liverpool fan).

This is a very different Tottenham to the sides of the past 20 years or so...easily the best of my life-time, and the results from last season show that we won't give up when we're a goal or two down either. Match winners all over the place...Disco Benoit's afro...a player as good as Sandro not even making the starting line-up...amazing support..

So many false dawns over the last few years. Right now I'm enjoying the blazing sunshine

Walcot v Lennon comparisons are a tad flawed. Walcot's a Right sided forward in a 433. lennon is a winger in a 442. Lots of what they are both asked to do is the same but there are many things they have to do differerntly. Lennons involvement in the defensive side of the game for example. The freedom Walco gets to get beyond RVP more often over 90mins. The starting positions of both players when the sides win possesion and counter attack. All senarios favour Walcot as an attacking player so i think the direct comparison is unfair. I don't think walcot could play wide in a formation with only 2 CM's i think he'd be pretty average.

niether would get in my combined scum/spurs 11 anyway.
