I was surprised to see him 'pat down' a female supporter as usually they have to go to a female steward.

Utterly disgraceful behaviour from the steward with the terrorist climate as it is.

Maybe Spurs should treat their own match-day staff better so they don't have to contract out to shoddy contract staff to fill out vacant numbers and who don't give a damn...

I've cut up and moved sections around to suit the point, so bear with me.. there is a contradiction in there.

A steward filmed performing comically ineffective frisks of supporters before a Tottenham Hotspur match will not work at the club’s stadium again.

The video shows him barely even touching fans as he searched them on their way into the ground, instead merely waving his hands near them disinterestedly.

It has been universally slammed by supporters following a week in which the Borussia Dortmund team bus was targeted by three explosions.

Tottenham Hotspur did not comment on the case but confirmed that the steward – who was employed by a contractor – would not work at White Hart Lane again.

The club was quick to respond, stating: “Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The contractor has apologised and we've taken action accordingly.”

It comes as Premier League clubs up their security measures following a letter sent out by the league’s governing body.

A Premier League spokesman said: "Premier League clubs take safety and security very seriously and have a range of policies and provisions in place. They routinely work closely with the police, and with their local safety advisory group.

"Following the tragic events in Berlin, the Premier League shared with clubs relevant up-to-date information and guidance provided by statutory authorities."

Okay, great. Decent story about exposing slack security workers and swift action by the club and the PL.

Now these parts.

The steward became a viral sensation after mobile phone footage of him at work before Saturday’s Premiership clash with Bournemouth was retweeted more than 20,000 times.

The video was first brought to their attention by a Twitter user called Callum Wright, who wrote sarcastically: “Credit to @SpursOfficial. Raising the bar in security after a terrible week.”

The footage appears to have been originally taken by Colin Rowland, who joked: “Massive security operation at Tottenham today on an unprecedented scale.” He has received hundreds of comments as well as 12,000 ‘likes’.

I hate these parts appearing in news stories. Colin Rowland, a Spurs fan with relatively few followers, will have gained a huge following as a result - presumably he didn't want this, hence his low numbers before. Callum Wright, a Liverpool fan, clearly stole the video in an attempt to get RTs, followers and feel good about himself for a few days as 'that one on Twitter who got a security guy fired' - well done. You just got a bloke fired for the sake of some numbers on Twitter (although if that's his attitude to work, then it's probably for the best..).

no its public shaming, if they would have taken the correct measures, surely spurs as a company would have released some sort of memo to stewards/matchday staff etc, its just wrong what the guy did. all to get a few followers, he couldnt care less i doubt.

1. It's a really funny video, of course he's going to share it online.

2. If the steward doesn't want funny videos of him not even trying to do his job going viral, maybe he should at least attempt to actually do his job.

If it was just straight up secretly filming someone not putting 100% effort in I could understand your anger, but this guy is being filmed right in front of him in full view of everyone and he can't even be bothered to do anything but wave his arms about - he's not even looking at any fans. Why on earth should he be paid for that, in the current security climate, and why shouldn't the bloke filming it post it on his Facebook when it is properly funny?

Surprise surprise a 'contractor' for Tottenham

Some poor bastard on minimum wage doing a tick box exercise so the company bosses can make a shed load of money

Sad times we live in both with all these private companies doing such a crap job in so many different sectors and Also the guy taking the clip just for a laugh and to get some exposure
yes, those lucrative stewarding contracts that we're always hearing about

Cheap thrills for the person who sought to 'publicly shame' a human being. Bloke was.inept, but public ridicule? Bit much for me.

What's wrong with filming it, then sending it to his bosses privately?

Didn't need to mash him up like that.
