An interesting expose by the Guardian on the finances of the various PL clubs for 2016/17.

We come in at 6 as you would expect but there is going to be uplift once the stadium gets built.

The turnover of Man City though is interesting. How does a club in Manchester of all places that isn't Manure have a turnover of 352m quid and commercial income of 173m? That is bizarre.

But are they in Manchester? I used to print their business cards. We were doing cards for the likes of Roberto Mancini and Patrick Vieira under the MCFC badge. Then we started doing business cards for City Football Club. Manchester was dropped and 'City' clubs started popping up in Australia and New York. Would these be included in the profits? And if they are that business savvy there's probably plenty more going on away from little ol' Manchester City Football Club.

Because City have various clever and not-so-subtle ways to bring in income from their owners companies and subsidiaries, to make it look like they have a high turnover, and allow them to get around FFP...

Somehow Chelsea manage to make nearly double us on match-day/gate income with an average attendance barely greater than ours, while the average price of a ticket and season ticket at WHL is higher than at SB. Basically their corporate match-day income must be multiples greater than ours.

Sadly there are a hundred ways via connected parties to beat FFP rules, and no one in the media is interested in exposing them.

If you're a 'journalist' being treated to a jolly every other week with a few mates on Abramovich's tab, are you going to start investigating how your host has so much match-day income from such a low capacity in the stadium? Are you going to investigate how your host acquired such ridiculous amounts of money in such a short amount of time after the Soviet Union collapsed? I don't think so, somehow.

This article doesn't actually reflect whether we are "still" in 6th in the financial league table. It shows that we were 6th in May 2015.

Since then, we have achieved our highest ever PL finish and qualified for the Champions League, whilst playing the best football in England. We probably are still 6th, for 2015-16, but I imagine we've closed the gap a bit. With a new stadium on its way, impending huge growth in the American market and most of our starting line-up starring at the Euros this summer, we certainly won't be losing ground any time soon.

Been saying that for 10+ years now. Still hasn't happened. They are his play thing. He is a Russian oil baron whose not going to lose any money anytime soon (Putin would need to go first). Regrettfully, not going to happen anytime soon.

Agree
Also, I suspect moving up will take sustained growth i.e. regular involvement in CL group stages, increased stadium revenue and a kit and stadium sponsorship deal to match those ahead of us. In addition we currently don't have anything like the global presence that the clubs above us do. A Spurs kit abroad is hard to find.
