Anyone who thinks that we are ready to challenge for the title should really understand (especially after last week) that this team we have is not ready yet!

yes, I know every team can have there off days, but lets face it, this team has had way to many of them in the last year.

Do any of you really believe that Chelsea or Man U will lose at home to Wigan this season.

If we are to challenge for "4th" this year we will need to strengthen the team, especially given that we were not in Europe at all last year!!

lets get down to earth lads, please no more talk of challenging for the tittle, we just sound silly, and give the Gooners and rent boys ammunition to send us "hilarious" text messages to us Spurs fans after games like last week.

I'd be surprised if anyone one here thinks we could push for the title.

We are, as ever, a couple of players short (up front).

But don't forget the young players we have will improve with every experience (hopefully)

We desperately need to learn how to turn these games into wins, cos we can up our games against the big boys these days.

If we somehow beat Werder Bremen away though people will swing the other direction: "We're Gonna Win Everything!!!!!"

That's the problem with knee-jerk reactions.

We weren't ready for 4th last year either Wexford, according to you. Does every thread, post you make have to put a negative spin on everything?

In this case, I agree with you to a certain extent, I don't think we will win the league, I just want to see us finish closer to the Title winners points tally than we did last year and we are more than capable of doing so.

Rome wasn't built in a day, we have already made huge strides to get to where we are from where we were already. But the way we are building is slow and steady, this year is more about consolidation and getting fourth place again should be our aim (as we will have to do so along side a CL campaign)

Title challange is beyond our reach, no one should be thinking of us pushing for the title just to replicate our achievements of last year will be a wonderful achievemnet in itself and that will be pushing us towards establishing ourselves as a CL team.

3-4 years back to back CL campaigns are where we need to aim, before we can even think about winning the league. We have to be real not set unrealistic expectations that will leave the fans disappointed because of delusional expectations.

Hate you fake spurs fans, one loss and you all start crying doubting the team.

I still think we can push for the title, man city lost at home to sunderland im sure there manager still thinks they can give it a go.

The top "four" are all gonna lose games they should expect to be winning, football is unpredictable

I don't mind fans dreaming of a title push, as long as it doesn't set a level of expectation that when it is not achieved those same fans start booing and calling for heads to roll.

We can't win the league this year, there is no way we will. It shouldn't even be our target (not one that we judge ourselves by, I understand all that aim high business)

Top four again is or should be our aim, progress would be great if we can come third and negate the need for a play off next year this will be an amazing season, other targets for me include making it to the CL knock out rounds.

Its about progress, we have been and are making great progress and we will continue to do so as we gel and grow together. We will not suddenly jump from being fourth place CL debutants to actually winning the league in the space of a single season though (anyone who thinks or ever thought we could win the league this season seriously underestimates how difficult winning the PL league is in my opinion)

For all fans who want to believe we can and dream of a title this season, fair play to you! just don't let it delude you and make that your expectation that you judge the team and manager by, because the last thing I want to see is moronic fans booing and calling for harry's head because we are not on pace to win the title.

"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory."

Yes I even eluded to that statment in my post

Thats a nice sound bite, but it is outdated and from a time when football was a completely different game and we were in a different position.

Socitey is different now, people react differently and I know that many fans who start thinking we can win the league this year will start bitching and moaning the second things go wrong and we have a bad patch.... I know this because I have seen some of our fans do it, after our great start last season many fans were saying we could win the league then as soon as we had a sticky patch many of those same fans were calling Harry a used car sales man and unable to take us where we need to be.

I'm not a negative Spurs fan by anymeans, infact I was one of the only posters on here still stating we would beat Young Boys when we were three down in the match thread that night.

I have faith in the team and faith in the squad and people in charge, I see how far we have come and I see we are progressing fast and steadily.

What I am saying is those who think we can or will win the league this season are not aiming high they are being delusional. There is a reason so few teams have actually won the PL league since it's inception, because over the course of the season it is a VERY difficult thing to do and we will not be able to bridge the gap in such a short space of time (regardless of what quotes you want to throw around from yesteryear)

Ok you aim high, I am still aiming high just with realism in tact, CL stability is high if we can come third or fourth this season and make it through our CL group we will have achieved great things for the second year running and be making big strides towards estabilshing ourselves as a force both at home and in Europe and this is what we need to do.

I don't really see the benefit of fans shouting their mouths of about winning the league this season and then justifying the delusion with a quote from before they were born. We won't win the league this year, at best and I mean very best we will still be in with an outside chance come Easter.

For me it is all about retaining our champions league status this season, for me this is aiming high and for me this is what we NEED to do (and I don't believe aiming lower than winning the league makes us anyless likely to attain our REAL objectives for the season)

Its like this, people thought we were going to sign Dzeko and other world class signings this window...now that we haven't people are acting stupid and promoting doom and gloom, this is the same type of react many fans would have if we believed we could win the league...as soon as we didn't the doom and gloom mungers would come out when in actual fact our target should be progress and progress is THIRD place this season.

May not be ready for the title but I really think we could get third if we focus better against teams like Wigan Wolves Blackpool.

0-1 defeat against Wigan was V poor we cant afford to mess up in these sort of games and Cudicini worries me.

I reckon the club has made an assessment that revenue is not high enough to compete with Liverpool and Man City and are unwilling to spend any more than it takes to get 5th .

This could be a time to keep the powder dry and build up reserves for player purchases when the stadium project gets underway .
