I had to look that up as well, and I'm still none the wiser as to what he means really. That he wants to have sex with me?

I think he was suggesting you are a "boy kept for homosexual practices". Like a rent boy, but not rented, more owned. A gimp perhaps.

Nice to know there are community members as old or older than me. I was taken to my first game by my Dad in about 1952, but remember the late 1940s early 50s team from my Dad getting me their autographs. All I need to do now is to find my old autograph book!
We may be getting older but at least we can remember Spurs winning the league and the Double. This summer in Malta a local Spurs supporter was telling me that his beloved Spurs had never won the league in his lifetime.

Hello my friend Kernowspur! Yes that is very true, it was I who said that at Tony's bar in Sliema (Malta) That supporter was yours truly ! In fact I was 3 years old really (1960/61) and I wasn't old enough to stand up properly by then let alone remember it happening. I am just hoping for us to do it again during my lifetime. I must say one thing however, despite the fact that I come from Malta, I know the history of our great team inside out. Moreover,I have had the honour to actually referee Spurs in the first round of the UEFA cup against Zimbru Chisinau (Moldova) 3-0 at White Hart Lane as well. I'm sure that no one here can say that he,s done that!!!! Keep rolling in the good old times of yesteryear .

I'm a young whippersnapper me..

Thought my first was vs Arsenal 10.10.64 ( a 3-1 win)
but more likely to be the match 03.09.66 (also a 3-1 win)

Jennings in goal is about all I can remember but he played in both of those.

So I've racked up 40 years at least

Hi orkneyspur, glad you have responded to my post. Yes it was a great experience and I have made a lot of very special friends at Spurs since then. I come over to watch Spurs as often as I could and that is of course subject to me getting hold of match tickets. I was also at the old Wembley Stadium in 1980/81 (The year of the COCKNEY !) to see Spurs in the F.A.Cup Final beat Man.c. (The famous Ricky Villa goal) and Steve Perryman lift the cup. I was singing as loud as I have never done before or since : "When Steve went up to lift the F.A.Cup I was there, I was there" Oh yes,oh yes our team has a great history and a GREAT BIG CLUB and it hurts me to death to hear anyone saying otherwise. I'm not sure it's quite ethical for a Spurs supporter to referee a match involving Spurs , so I wouldn't go shouting that fact too loudly, but good on you anyway!!

By the wonders of the internet and after five minutes research in true This Is Your Life style, I can reveal your name to be Emanuel Zamit (or Emmanuel Zammit) and that the first two goals in that match came as a result of free-kicks conceded on the edge of the area. I assume they were legitimate .

You also officiated the Euro 2000 match we (England) lost against Portugal.

And just for good measure, here's a picture of you...

I don't want to get you in trouble though (i can't see that anything posted on an obscure thread on SC will make a difference), so if you want me to delete this let me know and I will.

I was 13 when we won the double and had been watching them since 1958.The big transformation came when we signed Mackay.Wolves and Burnley were the top teams then but we were challenging them under Billy Nick until we had a dreadful season and came 18th. thats when we signed Mackay and within2 years had done
the double.
Season 61/2 was heartbreaking we signed Jimmy and were even better than in the previous year. The European Cup(CL cup) should have been ours but we were robbed against Benfica both home and away by cheating lines men who gave two dubioius offside decisions ruling out goals. To this day I still think they were bribed. If we had won that semi final we would without doubt have won the cup setting up a dynasty. Our European exploits took it out of us and I think we lost twice to Alf Ramseys Ipswich who won the league , if we had won one of those games we would have done the double in sucessive years. Unfortunately the team went into slow decline after that Johnny White ( the ghost)was killed by lightning ,Mackay broke his leg and age finally overtook Danny ,that was the heart of the team gone in almost one hit.
If you had told me after the 61 final that I would be 60 years old and I would not have seen them win the league again in all that time ,I would have laughed in your face as they were so much better then the rest it was inconceveivable that there were not loads more league titles lined up and ready to grab.

Yes that is me. And No,you don't have to delete your post! I have now retired from refereeing anyway. As for your doubts about my integrety and whether I handled the match fair and square, my first major decision in the match was in the 3rd minute to disallow a goal for Spurs scored by Chris Armstrong for his foul on the Zimbru keeper! You can imagine the response I got from the terraces:"THE REFEREE IS A W....." for almost 30 to 40 seconds! But anyhow David Ginola had a cracking game that day and the supporters soon forgot about my infamous decision. But no seriously now, I did a good and fair job of it ,I know. The Spurs Manager was a certain George Graham !

Welcome Maltahotspur, great to hear your story, couldn't find us some more Spurs supporting refs, cause we need all the help we can get. !!!!!

I'm too young to have seen the truly great sides only started out in 1978, but have great memories of the 80's adventures and beating Arsenal on a regular basis!!!

Feel sorry for the whipper snappers in so many ways.

Yes bugsdad, I was there with about 65000 others against Benfica and we were robbed. Jimmy Greaves says the same in his autobiography and yes we would have gone on to win the European Cup!! I also had the good fortune to meet Johnny Brookes (smashing bloke, who I saw play for Spurs) long after he had retired when he was helping coaching at a local club near me. I saw him play alongside Tommy Harmer. More recent memories ? How about Graham Roberts slide tackling Charlie Nicholas into the advertising hoardings at Arsenal for starters!! Anyone else remember this?

I started to attend home matches in 1947. I remember the members of the early teams as Ted Ditchburn, Sid Tickeridge, Arthur Willis, Billy Nick, Vic Buckingham, Ron Burgess, Freddie Cox, Les Bennett, Len Duquemin, George Foreman and Ronnie Dix. This line-up was in the then accepted two full backs, three half backs and five forwards in the "W" formation. Joe Hulme, an ex-Arsenal player, was manager. After Hulme was replaced by Arthur Rowe Tickeridge gave way to "Sir" Alf, Arthur Willis by Charlie Withers. Harry Clarke was brought in at centre half, Sonny Walters at outside right and Eddie Bailey and Les Medley formed the leftwing partnership. This team won the second division championship in 1949-50 and immediately the first division championship in 1950-51, the so called "push and run" team. I can remember certain games vividly, a 3-2 defeat by Blackburn in Sir Alf's first home game when he inadvertently scored Blackburn's winning goal, a screaming back pass that gave Ditchburn no chance, and the staccato first time passing of Bailey and Medley, which at that time was so new and unique in English football. A style that Arsene Wenger has now adopted at Arsenal some 55 years later!

Those names bring back some great memories. Especially Ditchburn, Burgess, Ramsey, Medwin (my hero as a youngster) Duque. I remember little Tommy Harmer, but I thought he was a bit later on. Again, many thanks for these memories. Come on you Lilywhites!

And Big Maurice suffering a career-finishing injury.

I'm three years younger than you and feel pretty much the same. How we didn't win that second Double I'll never know. We did play better football than anyone else, but never quite grasped the concept of solid defence.

I've said before, the first first-team game I got taken to see was Billy Nick's first, the famous 10-4 win over Everton. Afterwards my grand-dad, who'd followed Spurs since before WWI, told me, 'Don't expect that every week, son.'

Wise words.

And I agree about the semi against Benfica. Bill refused to complain publicly, but no-one else was in any doubt that Benfica were allowed to get away with murder, particularly i the first leg, and that the decisions that went for them and against us were totally outrageous.
