Spurs Tie Worthy of CL: Vergoossen

PSV Eindhoven coach Sef Vergoossen believes his side's UEFA Cup clash against Tottenham would be more fitting in the Champions League.

The Dutch title holders dropped down from Europe's top competition mid-season, while Spurs have aims to eventually get there under Juande Ramos.

Vergoossen saw enough last week, when PSV established a 1-0 lead in the tie, to suggest the two teams would look the
part among the elite.

"When we played at Tottenham in that atmosphere it had exactly the same feeling as the Champions League," he said.

"It was also the feeling looking at the players."
Vergoossen does not want to reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup by defending their slender lead from London.

He added: "It would not be clever to start a game thinking that a draw is enough for us.

"I know for sure that a mentality like that would be a big problem for us. We have to play the same way, with the intention to score."

The PSV coach also feels his players will benefit from having the weekend off due to a police strike.

He wanted to play their match against Ajax, but added: "For sure, it is better that we had two days extra of rest."

In exactly 2 years, I hope, we'll be challenging some of the fixtures in the CL.

Beating teams in CL is much an easier thing than actually getting there. At least through the EPL. Some of the teams playing CL are not even Championship material - it's all down to the country coefficients and bits of luck to enter the group stages. Slavia, Tun, Rosenborg, Levski, Spartak to name a few, were there just to donate points to the big boys and play an odd draw for the entertainment if they're capable.

This is a fact. No other league is dominated to such an extent by a cartel of clubs (Rangers and Celtic, Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV were hogging their national championships long before the advent of the CL).

If Ramos goes in 2 years (if some silly team offers him more money then we currently do (and if they do their Crazy)) we hopefully will have a very good manneger in Poyet to take us over!

I thought the club were grooming Alex Inglethorpe to be the future Spurs manager.
