What has happened to Ceballos?
Heard something about a move to a Bulgarian team but haven't seen anything on the O.S unless i missed it.
Or is he just injured?

Match reports of the u21 game today

Next u21 match is on Friday (v Wham), so the experisquad v Tiblisi will tell us whether AVB wants to give any matchtime for the youngsters such as Carroll, Townsend, Falque and Kane.

One comment AVB made regarding the TW was that he felt the need to bring in more players to deepen the squad to avoid the Spring slump due to competing in PL and Europa League. Hopefully he will try out several of the youngsters in the home leg - cannot see him resting players 4 days into the new season - to help avoid that kind of problem. It maybe vindicates fans on this thread for urging more involvement in the EL by our more experienced youngsters last season.

I thought we were restricted to three overage players - aren't Sandro, Falque, Townsend and Fryers all over 21?

Fryers is born 1992, all born 92 are considered in their final year as U21.
Will be 21 in september, but that won't matter.
Toward the end of the season there'll be players turning 22 and still be considered U21 for this season

Friday 23 August - away against West Ham @ Bolyn Ground 7 pm

Delighted to see some of the youngsters get match time against Dinamo Tiblisi - I feared they would not with the strengthening of the first team squad this TW. Townsend probably MOTM with the first goal and assists on goals 2 and 3 to set up an unassailable lead, Shame Kane hit the post - would have giuven him such a boost to have scored in his 20 minutes cameo appearance alongside Carroll. Good experience for Fryers and Coulthirst to travel with the first team and be on the bench.

After that excellent 5-0 away win, hopefully the second leg will feature a number of youngsters to give them the expoerience they need to gain to challenge for the first team (after suitable loans etc).

Back to Friday's match, I cannot see Townsend, Carroll, Kane, Coulthirst and Fryers will appear, but I fancu we have a strong enough squad to get a decent result - maybe the only uncertainty is uUp front where I wonder if Coulibally is back - or will it be Lancaster or over age Obika ?

Carroll tweeted when I expecte that he landed that he was 'cream crackered' - its probably a 6 hour flight - although I agree after a 20 minute cameo that he could be ok after a couple of hour sleep.

Interesting that Stewart and Lancaster travelled - I heard Dombaxe did ! Seems unlikely we would have travelled with more than one 'extra' on top of a full bench but who knows.

I think the side could be determined by whether Ceballos, Veljkovic and McEvoy are back in contention.

Also I wonder if Sandro needs a 90 minute run out to get back to match fitness - and Holtby could be another candidate, both as over age players obviously.

I have a feeling Bentelab could be serving a ban after being sent off against Chelsea.

Depending on availability, and excluding those definitely travelled to Tiblisi, we could see something like :

Archer;
Fredericks, Ball, Stewart, Ward;
Holtby, Sandro, Vejkovic
Falque, Lancaster , Ceballos

Subs from : Miles, Vigoroux, D McQueen, Dombaxe, Michael-Percil, Galifucco, McEvoy, Lameiras, Coulibaly, Obika (overage)

So in theory, plenty of choices !

Arvid@Arvid796m
. @WindyCOYS Falque on his way to Rayo on loan aparently.

Very plausible loan possibility

Edit - Norwegian tv claiming its a season long loan with option to buy being discussed.

Vigouroux
McQueen, Ball, Stewart, Fryers
Holtby, Vejkovic, Dombaxe
Coulthirst, Lancaster , Dawkins
Im guessing it would look like something like this with possibly Dawkins and Dombaxe possibly swapped

Sorry if already said, but what is the crack with Dawkins? Not young, nowhere near 1st team but keeps getting contracts.

Think you are right first time - Dawkins at age 14 was a CF and remained a striker for most of his Spurs time, think the midfielder is something he adopted when he came back as maybe involving less physical things, where Dombaxe is mouch more defensive although has done a job as a no 10, mainly I think due to his size. An alternative might be to swap Holtby and Dawkins, but think I prefer Holtby where you have him rather than as a winger

Good to see Veljkovic back, and McEvoy also back albeit on the bench.

Maybe surprised to see Vigoroux chosen over Miles in goal.

Still no sign of Ceballos !?.

A (2 year ?) contract (singular) was given when he went on loan to Aston Villa last year, after training with us for a few months on his injury come back.

Apparantly nice lad, hard workiing and coaching staff felt sorry after an inury ravaged 6 (?) years but thought he could still make it at a lower PL side

Ok thanks. Just thought he may be blocking the path for a youngster who may thrive with more minutes on the pitch.
