Oh, and with Obika, he doesn't need to be registered to play in January. Clubs are allowed unlimited changes to the list while the transfer window is open.

Interesting - 2 weeks left of Jan to appear on the bench for a Preemiership matc, especially whilst Adebayor at.ACN. Not sure that AVB will do that though.

What team will this be for mate?

Cannot be u 21's as they played on Monday. The NextGen draw for the next round will take place in about 2 weeks so cannot be that. So I can only assume its a Spurs X1 - we have quite a few players who have not played yet in 2013 so that may be one reason for the match, plus there is an FA Youth cup match coming up (Pritchard too old for that, buit some of the 18 year olds might be given a run out in the Spurs X1 match).

Also at this time of year there are a lot of scouts watching the 17/18/19/20 year old matches (there were 4 or 5 scounts at u 21 match on Monday identified by one attendee), so suspect there will be scouts there, which may be another reason for the match - trying to place players on loan.

ITK suggests Watford wanted to sign Pritchard with his awkward contract situation. Any chance of a loan there do you think? Obviously only possible if he signs a shiny new contract first.

Would like to think he could get a loan - issue would be his size, like Carroll before him., but given Carroll did well at Orient (League 1) and Milwall (Championship) would hope that clubs with similar mentalities woiuld give him a chance - his freekicks by themselves could earn the loaning club a few points and despite his size we wasn't being bossed in NextGen by some of the 6 footers playing in opposition so think he could handle it.

Remind me, on what basis are people supposing that Pritchard is the second coming...? How many times have people seen him play? How many times in the PL? As far as I can tell he's not getting into the U21s atm, doesn't that tell us something? I mean it could tell us that this young super-star is being left out for under-hand nefarious reasons, there's a conspiracy and this is its evidence! Or it could mean that Pritchard is a young player not yet at the level of those keeping him out of the team? But that's crazy talk! We all know he's a super-star because... because... we saw him once in the Next Gen and... and... someone wrote a report saying Barcelona were interested, so he must be Brilliant!!!!!

Nobody is saying he's the son of god. Or Hod for that matter. And I don't think anybody has suggested there's any sort of conspiracy.

In regards to Pritchard's quality - all we can go on are the views of those that watch a lot of Academy/U21 football (and every review of his performance since he came into the last half of his Academy 2nd year has been fantastic) and his performances in things like NextGen which more of us have had a chance to see. Again, in the NextGen he was exemplary. Is this enough to suggest he's ready for first team football? Maybe not. But then again he performed around as well in that tournament as a player who is now a Premier League regular and who has an international cap. So, it's not crazy to think that maybe he'd do ok.

As for why he's not being picked, I think a lot of the concern is down to the fact that we've got a number of good players coming through the ranks at the moment, including a surfeit of creative attacking midfielders, who just aren't getting chances. And at the moment it's difficult to see where those chances will come as 'first team' squad players are getting chosen, including for the bench, even when they're out of form including in the types of match where we'd normally expect to see more youngsters (League Cup, Europa League). In addition, we're making player purchases that will stifle the development of our youngsters. For instance, in the last two transfer windows we've signed 3 players that play in the hole when that's arguably the best position for Kane, Mason, Pritchard, Munns and maybe even Ceballos.

I think the concern for a lot of us is that the best crop of young players to come through at Spurs will be wasted with really only Caulker to show for it. Not because they're not good enough but rather because the whole approach to youngsters isn't joined up enough for us to make the most of them.

Jon, Great summary.

Just to add that Pritchard was playing for the u 21's quite a reasonable amount until mid December http://www.myfootballfacts.com/TottenhamHotspurReservesAcademy2012-13.html after which he and Ceballos were dropped and replaced by Townsend and Falque - two more experienced players who might have been selected because tthey wre not getting enough game time with the first team.

Its worth remembering that Spurs array of attacking mids in the development squad/fringe first team include Townsend, Falque, Mason, Pritchard, Ceballos, Munns, Parrett (can play in the hole behind the striker), Fredericks - and that is without talking about Kane (on loan) or the younger ones coming through. All of those would like to play as one of the 3 in a 4231 formation for u 21's - some like Mason and Parrett are playing as CM's and FRedericks as a RB in order to shoe horn in as many as possible into the team.

Calm down, people are just saying he's an exciting young player in our development system no need to wet yourself over it.

He scored 4 and set up 2 this afternoon in an 8-1 thrashing of Peterborough (For those who are interested)(y)

OS Report on u 21 match - Spurs 5 - 1 Wolves :

RAMSEY DELIGHTED WITH U21S

Posted 15 January 2013 11:54am

Chris Ramsey was pleased to see our footballing principles stick despite the snowy conditions as we opened up Phase Two of Barclays Under-21 Premier League with an impressive 5-1 win against Wolves on Monday.

The snow fell progressively heavier throughout the match and eventually settled on the playing surface but that did little to stop the team getting off to a flyer in the Elite Group.

Goals from Jon Obika (2), Andros Townsend’s fine free-kick, Tom Carroll and Yago Falque saw the team home as they now aim for a place in the top three and the knockout stage of the competition.

“The performance showed our character in terms of sticking to the philosophy of how we want to play, regardless of the conditions,” said Chris, our Senior Professional Phase Coach.

“At times we’ll come a cropper, but we did really well against Wolves, created a lot of chances.

“Wolves actually gave us a very good game and might have scored another couple of goals, but everyone did it right and we were lucky to have the likes of Jake Livermore, Tom Carroll and Ryan Mason in midfield and it doesn’t get much better than that – it’s a Premier League midfield.

“We want to progress to the semi-finals and hopefully beyond and this is the first of maybe 10 wins we’ll need to get there. The main thing is to stick to the way we want to play and at the same time, showing that level of consistency.”

Ray Lo's usual excellent detailed report on the U 21 game

http://www.spursodyssey.com/1213/u21wo140113.html

'There was a good sized crowd despite the weather which was mainly made up of scouts from other clubs looking for players. I spotted Teddy Sheringham and David Pleat among the observers'.

Note that John Bostock was an unused sub.

Our Development Squad beat Peterborough 8-1 today. Match report & pics later! Goals: Pritchard (4) Ceballos (2), Luongo & Coulthirst #COYS

Another match for those who could not get into the u 21 match yesterday plus a few from the academy. probably similar to a NextGen team line up Be interesting to see the Peterborough line up too so as to see the quality of opposition - no doubt there will have been scouts at this match too looking for potential loanees.

David Pleat was talking on talksport the other day, his knowledge is insane for someone out of work or is he? and he mentioned that issue with Luongo at ipswich was they had too many young players and needed experience players for dealing with relegation
