I'm actually pretty gutted. The whole 1882 movement + the increased coverage of the U21 league has meant I support these lads nearly as much as the first team.

spot on, i have followed this thread all season, big thanks to Spurs Idol and the many others who have contributed. The 1882 movement has been fantastic to follow aswell, i look forward to how the youth team gets on as much as the first team.

Lets hope we see some of these kids make it through to the seniors.

All in all a great season, terrible last 45 mins, see you all the other side of silly season

Dissapointed with fryers. Veljkovic looks better in midfield, very disappointed with Carroll 2nd half he really needs to toughen up, mentally aswell.

Overall it's a bad end to a great season, hopefully we can learn from it

Yeah he and Bentelab went missing 2nd half due to them really pressing and being more aggressive.

I still haven't read an explanation about why, having won both leagues over the course of the season, we had to play United at Old Trafford to lift the trophy. Anyone?

Cracking first half display and just seemed to get tired/complacent in the second, forgetting how we'd got into such a comfortable position in the first place - long balls replacing composed pass and move stuff etc. Weird game...

2nd/3rd place winner plays at home and 1st place winner plays at home during semi final

Sorry, I don't follow the under 21s or know much about the youth leagues but what are the two leagues and how does this work? That just sounds bizarre.

Guys its important to remember that we are the champions, we won the league comfortably and this game was only for the trophy. United won the premiership by a country mile this year now imagine if all that did was qualify them to play chelsea at Stamford bridge in a one off game, we'd all know that they were the best team and the champions and that is what we need to take from this season our u21's are the best in the country.
We have a great group of youngsters and that is the real point so its no good picking over the bones of this away match everybody loses an away game once in a while during the season.
Mattwilliams I believe it starts as a regional league north and south, the highest group of teams at the end of all games then go onto the national league and as its for the best teams its called the elite league. Then there is the play off.

Yeah, thats what the New York Knicks have said about the NBA this year as well...

"Don't worry about getting beat by the Pacers in the Playoff's guys, at least we finished higher in the normal season..."

It's about winning mentality. Losing the biggest game of the season, when your 2-0 up, is a mare.

Beats has provided an explanation as to how the system works - but I don't think there is an explanation as to why the system works (or not) that way.
Why on earth should one of the finalists have home advantage? Either a neutral stadium or two legs, please

On that basis, I would have to agree with Worcester - although I was looking forward to this game it now seems pretty meaningless. Our lads ran away with the league. That is what matters - this match just wouldn't be viable as the format in a major competition. We have an exciting group of young players and losing a one of game that was, for some silly reason an away game for us and a home game for United means as little in the final analysis as claiming that we beat the Goons at the Lane so should finish 4th (SP@bitter_****.com).

Good to get the kiddies used to pressure games methinks.

Ahh ok. Just seemed abit miffed by having a play-off style game at the end of their league season. Maybe it would of been better to make it 4 divions instead of 3 and let the winners from each go into a tourney-style playoff to find the best overall team.

You're being unfair on the team and ignoring the venue of the occasion, was a ridiculously unfair advantage to United. Given we were champions should of been at WHL which would of been half filled and rocking.

3 leagues before Xmas (random draw as to who goes i n each), Spurs top their league with ManU second

Top 2 from each of the 3 leagues plus best runner up into Elite League plus others fill up League 1 and League 2 on merit for after Xmas competition

Spurs win Elite league with ManU 2nd and Liverppoo, 3rd, Everton win League 1, Newcastele win League 2

Everton beat Newcastle in play off to get to semi finals

S/F Spurs beat Everton, and ManU beat Liverpool (winners of Elite at home, 2nd in Elite at home = some logic)m

Final - why ManU at home is crazy (PL need to revisit rules - neutral veniue ?) v Spurs.

We can't really say the game was meaningless, it's kind of like the play offs, one team can come in 3rd 50 points above the team in 6th but if the 3rd placed team can't beat the 6th place team they won't get the prize.

The main issue here is that there was no reward for us topping the league, the final should have either been at whl or over 2 legs with the 2nd being at whl.

Yeah I think the only frustration about this format is that Man U ended up being at home. It's strange really and there are plenty of neutral venues that could have been used.

Obviously home advantage can be huge.

I don't think our lads need be too disappointed this morning. It's all part of development and a few have shown they can now either help the first team or get a high end loan.

Look like Jack Barthram has been released with Tom Carroll wishing him good luck 'wherever you go' on twitter.

Yes, looks like he's gone. He's looked pretty good the last few times I've seen him, albeit as a sub. Seems a shame and wish him luck.
