Looks like we're about to sell Massimo Luongo. Don't get that at all, looks a really promising player. (n)

Our Aussie friends have put it out there, so we can go with it. Massimo Luongo will put pen to paper on permanent move to #stfc this weekend

Luongo is expected to sign a three-year deal at the County Ground. The transfer fee is around £400,000 #stfc

A bit sad. Always thought he should be given a chance, at least in the Cups. But we have now several quality players on his position and it would allow us to give Swindon one more loan player.

I'd hope we have a large sell on fee in there. £400k doesn't seem enough.

I hope that doesn't happen.

Maybe we can buy him back for the same amount next year to help them get around the loanee rules?

This must be something we've learnt from Madrid, selling youngsters and bringing them back using buy back clauses and sell on percentage clauses.

Didn't we already do that...#Peter Crouch ;)

Seriously though, I always rated Luongo, so I am a little surprised by this. I would guess that the options are:

Buy-back clause.
Sell-on clause.
Have players considered to be better prospects in the academy already.
A way to get around the loan regulations.
All of the above.

What seems to get lost along the way is that the academy has more than one function. It isn't just about producing players for the first team. It is also about producing squad players, and generating revenues through sales. So, effectively, especially with a sell-on clause, we will have generated some revenue, hopefully either with him to come back or with more money to come. And if there are prospects that are rated more highly, well, ultimately, it is a sink-or-swim game and if we have younglings who swim faster then, sorry Massimo and good luck, but the jobsagoodun, because he is a decent young prospect so anyone rated more highly is a bonus for the club.

I agree with your analysis of the academy and have said as much recently in another thread

Apparently it wont be too hard to get Luongo back from Swindon as they are Spurs B and there may well be a buyback option

Also Dawkins is struggling to find a new club on loan it seems

Really wasn't expecting that, anyway good luck to Luongo. From reading interviews and articles about him he seemed like a nice lad, I hope he does well and has a good career.

Anyone think now that we have sold them Luongo we will loan Swindon someone else from the academy?

Big surprise that Luongo has gone - but having said that with the strength of our first team midfield now its going to be near impossible for any of the youngsters to break through for a couple of years.

£400k sounds far too low though - so I'd hope that we have one or mopre of SP's options in his contract.

Still room in the first team squad for goalkeepers, defenders and strikers tobreal thirough though : problem is that the yoithy set up's strongest area is probably in the midfield !

Late change in the line-up for Spurs U21s against Norwich: in goal tonight is Jonathan Miles. Spurs kick-off here at the Lane
