So now it looks inevitable that he's our new manager i feel it's time to embrace it and have a serious look at what our squad and playing style will look like under Poch.

This article from a couple of weeks back gives some great insight, but i reckon as a group of fans we can add a fair amount to this both from a positive side and also from a cautious side (i.e. i hope he doesn't play Lennon as his wide forward).

This article looks at the front 4 players and as such gives us an idea of how Poch could come in and replicate his tactics at the Saints with out current crop of 'star' players. For me this means a first team midfield and attack of:

Paulinho --- Sandro
--- Holtby ----
--- --- --- --- Erikssen
Lamela --- --- --- --- ---
--- Adebayor ---
With a second team of:

Dembele --- Capoue
--- Sigurdsson ----
--- --- --- --- -?-
Chadli --- --- --- ---
--- Soldado ---
I'm not sure what the makes the defense look like, perhaps some followers of the Saints from this year can enlighten us more on that front.

That actually looks pretty good to me as it makes use of our current squad and a lot of players could fit that style. The "2nd team" could add Townsend too so we have plenty of options and can rotate rather easily.

But then again we looked at similar combinations under AvB and at times it looked good, just hope that now (if Pochettino comes in) it will work better and more often.

Personally I would rather have Dembele sit deep and have Paulinho play in the advanced MF spot (which means Holtby out).
Besides, I think there will be a few changes in in-coming and out-going players this summer...
PS! His appointment will (again) split the fans though, as it seem that majority wanted Frank de Boer. Personally I would also have preferred de Boer, due to his "extensive" experience as a player and head-coach. I fear it was Levy & the board that turned him off rather than the club itself (of course, the board very much is the club but I think you people on here understand what I mean...).
But, well, if Walter is the man he should, of course, be given 100 % support and also given time to build up "his" team/squad.

Lloris;
Walker, Chiriches, Vertonghen, Fryers;
Sandro, Capoue;
Lamela, Paulinho, Eriksen;
Soldado.

That's before any incomings obviously. Fryers can't be any worse than Rose.

Paulinho plays the role i've put him in well for Brazil, with Gustavo the more defensive minded player alongside him. So it's not exactly a defensive role, but a box-to-box role that starts further back.

I also find it difficult putting Dembele into the first team squad with his injury issues, he'll end up spending half his time on the bench instead.

IMO we need a consistent first team that are all injury free as much as possible. Lamela being the obvious one in there that seems to suffer from regular injury.

Paulinho will be a star under Pochettino. I really hope there aren't plans to sell him.

As for FDB...there's a lot to admire there but he didn't get the job so let's just move on and get behind Pochettino. He doesn't have the pedigree of FDB but that doesn't mean he can't do the job and, from all accounts, he has a hunger for success. I'm looking forward to seeing him work.

Lloris

Walker Lovren Vertonghen Cole

Sandro
Paulinho Eriksen

Lamela Soldado Chadli
Bit concerned down the left in terms of pace and width but I think Chadli has potential to really assist on the goals front next year and added physicality.

Primarily I want Eriksen central as he's our schemer who should invariably see the ball the most but i'd imagine he will drift into space and play a slightly free role roaming.

I'd like MRP to play

------------Lloris-------------
Walker Kaboul Verts NewLB
-----Paulinho---Sandro------
-----------Eriksen-----------
----Lamela-------Chadli------
---------Ade/RS9-----------

I know Chadli = some WTFs but I have a funny feeling he may really come to the fore next season.

Swap Dembele and Capoue in depending on form / fitness for the CM positions, Holtby for Eriksen as the ACM and Siggy/Eriksen as the LWF we may have a team who can be tinkered with depending on opposition strengths and weaknesses.

The Kanes, Pritchards, Bentalebs and veljkovic's of THFC can fill in as he works his youth magic.

Out of the current squad (so not guessing about upgrades in certain positions), assuming we play in a similar way to Saints' set-up, I think the major question marks would be who fills the second sitting midfielder role next to Sandro and the wide positions.

Agree with all of this. I wouldn't be surprised if Poch tried to develop Rose into the full-back he is supposed to be. I think Chiriches will have a key role to play with Kaboul's injury prone record. I really don't think Dawson has a future if we are going to go down the high-line route again. As we've seen, he dives in way too much which results in clear 1on1 opportunities.

I think something like this is pretty Poch-esque. At Southampton he's stuck with a 4-2-3-1 with 2 pretty defensive holding midfielders.

Lloris
Walker--Kaboul--Vertonghen--Shaw
Paulinho--Sandro
Lamela--Eriksen--Konoplyanka
Lukaku
We won't get Shaw but I think the other two are somewhat realistic.

I like the look of that but Lukaku up top and Dembele in for Paulinho as I think that swap might happen.

A much better setup, and with three intelligent attacking midfielders behind I also think Soldado could find his feet as well.

I think we might need to look at a CB partner for Vertonghen - Garay would be awesome. Also, although Paulinho offers goals, I wonder if we could do with a better ball player/passer in there instead, ideally able to score a few himself. I wasn't impressed last season, and I'm mainly talking about Paulie's decision making i.e. passing wide when there's an opportunity to move/pass forward.

Shaw's too expensive IMO - there's a few good options around for half what he'd cost. But I definitely wouldn't complain if we got him.

Aside from that, I think the team would pass and move for fun, with intelligence and goals possible from all angles.

I like it!

Well my sampling size for Argentine managers is small, but I would assume that if the last one is any indication we will play with a goalkeeper and 11 forwards.

I'm not so sure on Konoplyanka. I get the feeling he would be another Arshavin.
